Oh yes ..we've all been there!
The constant pacing around the room, the annoying flicking through magazines
for inspiration, isn't it so much easier when someone says can you paint us
a picture of this ........
Well what I do is this..
A: Annoy the hell out of the Missus saying " I don't know what to paint"
over and over. Before she throws something at me.
B: Decide what areas I need practise on and tackle those in a picture. for
example if painting a face gives u trouble go paint a portrait of someone
say a musicain, film star family member whatever. That way u have something
enjoyable to paint and u also get to be a better artist at the same time.
!Double bonus!.
I had trouble painting realistic fur so I went and painted my cat. The cat
didn't like it much though:-)
C: Ok go paint this...Picture Robert De niro AKA Taxi Driver holding a
paintbrush and staring straight at u saying "U painting me?"
Show us the results in a couple of weeks ok.

In your case visit a good art show and watch what sells. In my case, I went
to a large art show in Gainesville, Florida and noticed that people who had
drawn, painted or sculpted certain animals were sold out and went home with
lots of money in their pocket. People in my home state paid good money for
the following subjects; Eagles, Owls, Mickey Mouse, The yellow cartoon
character Tweetie Bird, and Unicorns. When I run out of ideas and have extra
time, I like to make birdhouses for my personal enjoyment, but when I need
money then I make screen prints or airbrush one of these subjects that are
sure to sell. Once I did a simple cartoon mouse for $85. Horses are another
hot item. Visit a large art show and take notes. Frequently you will see a
sold sign on a piece of work, until the end of the show, when it is then
presented to the buyer. Please let me know how it goes for you! Right now I
am working on a mural for a new restaurant. It is so much fun for me. You
meet the most interesting people as you are working on the project. Keep a
large stack of business cards close by to where you are working. All the
Chef asked me for was something with people eating and pretty. Yes, I
included an eagle, an owl, and a unicorn and I bet you there will be 10 more
customers from this one job!
In a day or two I might be able to show you the comprehensive black and
white that I need to submit to the sign permit department. They don't really
care except they don't want too much advertising or obnoxious things.
