I've just got a brand new Epson 2100 printer. It's a real beauty. Anyone
want prints of their work?

Nice bit of kit the Epson 2100 and does A3+ as well..Can you tell me though
does it handle canvas effect paper and other quality paper for doing your
own prints Paul? And if it does..I've got a couple of paintings I wouldn't
mind a print or two if the price is right. I take it all you need is a good
quality .jpg uploading. I'm Thinking about cheapy Christmas presents for the
family you see..:-)

All joking aside, i have used photobox, www.photobox.co.uk for prints
for the family and the quality is superb, reasonable cost too. In no
way afiliated or employed, just a customer. They'll also send prints
to an address that your credit card isn't registered to without the
"3rd degree"!

You name your price and I'll let you know. It will print onto true artists
canvas. This isn't the paper effect canvas but proper canvas as in cloth
type. I have some A3 canvas here. To frame it correctly though you would
need to stretch it onto a wooden frame. I have some A3 gloss paper that is
rated higher than Epson's own paper and some real thick 300grams watercolor
paper. This is a professional standard printer and the results are first
class. It uses 7 different inks that are pigmented for fade resistant prints
up 100 years.
Regards,
Paul.

I have had prints done myself before and they were about £15 - £20 for a one
off A3 print. And they were crap and I had to send them back. I shall do an
A4 for £7 on 300grams watercolour paper or 200grams gloss. A3, same papers
for £10. Postage+packaging depends on how many and weight but about £5
upwards. I don't stretch the canvas prints. If you still want canvas we'll
say £15 for A3. I can scan slides/transparencies up to 4" x 5".
In US dollars all this is about A4 $10 A3 $15 Canvas A3 $23 Postage
probably slightly more, say $15.
I can repair old creased, torn photos too if anyone is interested.

Regards,
Paul.

I reckon I might give that a go then Paul. I've got a couple of weeks off
from work so I reckon I'm gonna get a couple of paintings done anyway so if
they are any good I'll post the photos down to you ....or better still is it
possible to email you the photos? or does the print quality suffer? Cheers
for the info Paul, that seems a fair price, nice one.

Better to send me the photos seeing as we're both in the UK. I've got a top
notch scanner. Just make sure the photos are good. Do you use an slr? It's
best to photograph photos outside in good light. An hour either side of mid
day is ideal. Bright sunlight is best but do the photo in the shade. I stick
my paintings to a wall with blu tak and get the camera dead square to the
painting. Use a spirit level. Any slight angle will result in shadows on the
photo. As my work has a mainly white background it really shows up on the
photo. I usually print from a tiff file, 50mb in size. Something I've learnt
is if you want something doing properly then do it yourself. That's why I
bought all this gear. All these companies just give a service that's
average. I want my prints to look just like the original and you just can't
buy that, or so I've found anyway. Perhaps I'll give up painting and go into
printing. :-)

I THINK the above refers to my suggestion to use photobox. Let me
clarify:-

"quality .jpg uploading. I'm Thinking about cheapy Christmas presents

Wenz"

At 24p for a 4"x6" (approx) print, you cant go much wrong, nor much
cheaper, so i think that just about covers the Crimbo thing.
Frankly if you are going to be printing the above (A4 300grm. £7.00 or
A3 £10.00) expect a flood of orders. You're too cheap. You aren't
really printing the photo's out at all, what you are really doing is
providing a premium service because if i read it correctly you are
also going to "correct" or "adjust" the image before printing. This is
skilled labour intensive work.

I had been toying with the idea of buying the 2100, but don't have the
space at the moment for an A3 printer. Should do in a couple of
months when I (fingers crossed) take posession of a house - complete
with a separate studio/office... Supply is iffy on the 2100s - hardly
anyone seems able to maintain stock.

I've been tinkering with printing with an Epson 895 as an inexpensive
compromise. Probably should have gone for the 950, as having the roll
feed but not the cutter is a PITA. Had some very variable results
with different papers put through it; at the moment, my preferred
paper for colour reproduction is Jessops' glossy stuff.

Not having anything to handle colour matching on the screen makes life
interesting, but not impossible. The other option I've toyed with a
bit is going into Jessops & having the digital photos printed there -
lovely results, but I'm still not sure what the optimum reolution etc.
is. 10x8 cost £2.49, then £1.24 for subsequent prints, so for other
than 1-offs & "right now", I'd probably use Jessops. The downside is
how long it takes for their system to thumbnail 40 15-20Mb tiffs...

How do you feel the results compare to giclee & lith prints? And who
have you found is cheapest for the carts? My current source is
7dayshop.

Quality is easily comparable to giclee's. I can't fault it at all. Prints up
to A3+ and it comes with the electric paper cutter. It also prints direct
onto the face of cd's. You can also feed card up to 1.3mm thick through the
back of the printer. Litho's are just a cheap print of poor quality these
days, giclee's are best. I got my printer from Europe. Took about 3 weeks
from www.nomatica.com About £480 Quite a saving on the UK prices. Haven't
looked for carts yet. I get my paper from http://www.on-linepaper.co.uk/ and
buy the Imajet brand. Rated best paper by some magazines.
This place also sells some software to get computers, printers and monitors
set up so they talk the same language when it comes to colours.

Regards,
Paul.
