Introduction
============

Alt.adoption is an unmoderated forum for all those interested
in discussing adoption.  Adoptees, birth and adoptive parents,
those considering adopting and those considering placing a child
for adoption, our friends, families post here as well as those
whose work is in some way connected to adoption.

The FAQs are in the process of evolving from primary information
sources to an index of adoption related links. With the increased
number of people who have web access and the every increasing
number of sites, it makes sense to move the bulkier files and
databases to web sites.  So under 'How to Start a Search' you
won't find the old text file.  Instead you'll find a list of
sites with information on that topic.

Things may be in a bit of disarray while the transition in happening,
so don't be afraid to ask if you can't find what you thought was here
last month.  Also look in the big "other sites" area in the last
section of the FAQ while thinkgs are being sorted out.  Please let me
know if you think your site is not listed in the proper topic(s).

aa...@freenet.buffalo.edu

The bulk of these FAQs are geared toward searching adoptees and
birthparents. This only reflects the knowledge area and
interests of those who have contributed and in no way diminishes
the importance of other interests and perspectives. It is hoped
that others will come forward to fill the gaps.

Introduction
============

Many good books in the adoption community are published independently
or by small presses and are not generally found on the shelves of
the local bookstore or in standard catalogs. This list is intended
to help those in the adoption community learn about and locate books,
magazines, and other multimedia materials that may otherwise be hard to find.

There are now several online catalogs offerring a wide selection
of print, audio, and visual materials.  Those materials represented
in those catalogs have been dropped from this listing.  Since a large
portion of the material online is on such topics as how to adopt,
adoptive parenting, and material for children, those topics have been
dropped from this listing.  I may still announce new books in
those topics.  The selections aimed at adoptees, birth parents, and
those interested in search are unfortunately still significantly
lacking.
