=o= Middle-of-the-road usually means not leaning very far.
_The_New_Republic_ leans this way and that, which might add
up to middle-of-the-road, sorta, but not really.

=o= _TNR_'s editorial stance is something like this: "We're
liberals. Really we are. Honest. But don't call us liberals,
we don't like that. Call us neo-liberals. Oh, and by the way,
we believe all these conservative things. This makes us New
And Different. Also, you should really listen to us on these
things, because we're liberals, or rather neo-liberals, and
so our support of these conservative things is really really
trenchant. Just ask us. Oh, and by the way, here are even
more conservative things we really like."
