THEFT OF NORMAN ROCKWELL'S

"RUSSIAN SCHOOLROOM"

DESCRIPTION

On June 25, 1973, an original Norman Rockwell painting, entitled Russian
Schoolroom, was stolen during a late night burglary in Clayton,
Missouri. The painting was part of a Norman Rockwell Exhibit sponsored
by the Chicago office of the Circle Galleries, later known as Arts
International Galleries. At the time of the theft, the Russian
Schoolroom, oil on canvas, measured 16" X 37", and was presented in a 2'
x 4' frame of dull gold-white molding. This painting may also be
referred to as The Russian Classroom or Russian Schoolchildren.

Records for the Russian Schoolroom indicate that after the theft in 1973
and prior to 1988, the painting’s location was unknown. In October 1988
Russian Schoolroom was sold at auction in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Records revealed that at that time, the painting was associated with
Circle Galleries (Chicago) and the Danenburg Gallery (New York). Neither
gallery exists today.

Recent information determined that the same Russian Schoolroom was
allegedly advertised for sale at a Norman Rockwell Exhibit in New York,
circa 1989.

In July 2004, upon receipt of the information above, the FBI's newly
formed Art Crime Team initiated an investigation to locate and recover
the Russian Schoolroom.

If you have any information regarding this theft, please contact the
FBI's St. Louis Office at 314-231-4324

Can someone explain to me how does someone who is a Rockwell collector,
who founded the Norman Rockwell Museum, and is on the board of trustees, not know the
painting he owned was stolen?

"Spielberg is a longtime Rockwell collector. He helped found the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, where he's also on the board of trustees."

http://www.todaysthv.com/news/news.aspx?storyid=42534
http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=entertainment&id=5092537
http://www.azcentral.com/ent/celeb/articles/0305spielberg-CR.html
http://www.ageconcern.org.uk/AgeConcern/News_MoreInfo.asp?Articleid=18078623&titleID=Stolen+art+found+in+Spielberg+collection+(05.03.07)

Here are some comments from the news....

"We have a few in our office on the Universal lot."

"It wasn't immediately known whether Spielberg purchased the painting at that New York exhibit."

(so where did he get the painting from? did it fall off a pickle truck??)

Now, Here is the funniest comment I ever read.....

"It is good to know it was in safe hands, as Mr. Spielberg is a devoted and passionate collector of Norman Rockwell."

My conclusion is, he knew it was stolen but didn't know how to get rid of it.

He probably forgot about it...He's probably laughing to himslf right now,
"Oh yeah, I bought that stolen painting and I forgot all about it!"

How come I'm not surprised?

You know how it is...
you understand how it works
the stolen art market..
you buy or steal stolen art,
the price goes up from
$25,000 to $700,000.00
How do you "unload" it?
When you "knowingly" know it's stolen?
When it's on the FBI list?

Make Steven Spielberg take a lie detector test!

And have his DreamTeamGirls take one two!!

Does anyone really believe the FBI thinks he's innoncent?

And what were the events that led the staff member to discover it?

Was that just a ploy to "unload" what the FBI was looking for?

The Starmaker

Maybe I'm just imaginging things...delulsions, is that what they call it? I call it,
Envision.

usually you take stolen artwork
and sell it again at some private auction...
but who is going to wanna touch stolen artwork
that is on the FBI list??? It's worthless!

It's hot potatoes!

You have to tell the staff, "Go check that room over there and see what's in it"

"WHAT!!!! STOLEN ARTWORK AT OUR OFFICE ON THE UNIVERSAL LOT, MAIN HEADQUATERS OF THE SUPERMOB!!!"

from what I understand...
some FBI guy, *knew* Spielberg had the painting and how much he paid for it before
the staff contacted the FBI....

In fact, when Speilberg bought the painting, the police were notifed *then* it was stolen....

And Speilberg bought it from some guy named M. Goldberg!

DEVELOPING....

Of course, you know how these people work...
if you want to know what Spielberg is doing "right now"...
he has been busy the last 24 hours trying to flood the media with "PR" to drown
out the negative image he has gotten...
http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&ie=UTF-8&ncl=1114269372

I expect him to be at the Soup Kitchens pretty soon feeding the skid rows...

I'm guessing what happen is,
the FBI *knew* beforehand Spielberg had the goods and the
FBI guy pretended to be calling all Rockwell collectors informing them of the theft, to see what
Spielbergs response would be....

You guys know what the response was...

These guys in Chicago wanna do a documentary on stolen art
http://www.saztv.com/page2.html
SEARCH FOR WORLD'S MOST WANTED ART / TELEVISION PRODUCTION

Do you think they can get people in Hollywood to help them?

How about "Raiders Of The Lost Art"?

and who is that guy in Hollywood, who has a secret room.. containing stolen art? What's his name?

I'm trying to figure out how this stolen art business works. It looks to me, if you steal or buy stolen
art work and hold it for a certain amount of years...as an investment..that the value goes up and the
statutes for criminal prosecution have lapsed. You can collect the reward for it's recovery too!

The Starmaker

I have some art work in my office on the walls that seems very rare, I wonder if it is stolen art work?

....still, when Spielberg walks past people in Hollywood...or where he works...
they are whispering "There's the gonif!"
In Hollywood, that's considered a badge of honor, if you know and understand the real
definition of "gonif".

But just for those who still don't know....it wasn't his staff that was surfing
the FBI website....you need to define "his staff"....
you know what I mean?...his crew...compadres...in Hollywood I think they
mean entourage...goodfellas...menchfellas

He could've at least gotten "art title" insurance, ...or self insurance...but it's hard to
insure stolen property, isn't it?

I bet Steven Spielberg who is a Rockwell collector,

who founded the Norman Rockwell Museum, and is on the board of trustees,

never invited a Norman Rockwell collector or a member of the board of trustees to
his home where he had the stolen painting hanging!

How much you wanna bet, how much you wanna bet, how much you wanna bet he didn't?

Frank Brostrom is selling his four bedroom house,
in the Mehlville area of South St. Louis County at 13353 Bahnfyre Dr.
with a list price of $409,000.

Mr. Brostrom is the FBI agent who initiated the investigation that led to the
discovery of a vintage Norman Rockwell painting that was stolen from a Clayton art gallery in 1973,
and he was recently transferred to North Carolina.

Meow, meow, meow....

Let me be an F.B.I. guy for 2 minutes and I'll put handcuffs on Steven Spielberg!
I'm not afraid of no Kosher Nostra or the Supermob or whatever these religious gangsters want to
call themselves! And I'm not afraid of their gangster lawyers either...
