greetings,

"fire-come walk with me" is from twin peaks. some of you may remember
david lynch's foray into the land of tv...the show that turned nighttime
drama on its ear....

sq's post reminded me of that line..."I have to face *my* monsters.
None of you can
turn the same face to the same monsters, and I can't turn the same face
to
yours. I wish, mutually, that we could. I can't. That's the 'less
than
perfect' me.... "

this got me thinking about our monsters, or what i call "our fire" i
think of my life in terms of a shaman's journey. many societies have
had shamans and frequently the shaman wannabes must go through a period
of trial before they are can take on the honoured title of shaman.
there is frequently a time of deprivation, a (need to borrow your name
sq) spirit quest where through deprivation of water, food and company
the wannabe is enured into a shaman. they walk with the spirits seeking
wisdom and enlightenment.

metal is put through a trial of extremes to make swords. first it is
heated white hot so that it can be hammered into shape. this is done
repeatedly. the metal is folded many times to make a strong blade.
then when the folding and shaping is done, the sword is immersed into
cold water. this anneals the metal and if the swordsmith has done the
job right, the sword will be strong. the final sharpening is then done
and the sword, in all it's destructive beauty, is ready for the wielder.

the fires i walked through, whatever it was that bent the metal of my
soul i choose, in healing, to become the metalsmith my being.

each of us is on our own journey. each of us has our own fire to walk
through. each of us has our own version of the shaman's spirit
questing. no one's journey is like another's but there are
commonalities that enable us, once in a while, to say "me too".

i use the inclusive "us" because i believe that no one gets out of this
life unscathed. each of us has our aspect of monster to face down.
each of us has walked some version of a shaman deprivation path. each
of us has a sword in the fire.

fire - come walk with me,
naomi

Wonderful post.

I want to respond when I have the time to do it justice.

Yup. I agree. Thanks for reminding me of that commonality.

I fully agree with everything you have put here, I must admit that for the
past 15 years I have been afraid to even attempt to look at my "monsters",
but in this past 18 months I've slowly been coming to terms with not only
the monsters, but starting on that healing journey, I haven't found it easy
as both my main abusers died many years ago. Thank you for this picture -
it certainly helps to understand.

"More than anything God loves admiration."

"You saying God is vain?"

"No, no. Not vain. Just wantin to share a good thing. I think it pisses
God off if you walk by the color purple in a field & don't notice it."

"You saying it just wants to be loved like it say in the bible?"

"Yea, Celie. Everything wants to be loved. Us sing & dance & holler just
trying to be loved. Look at them trees. Ever notice how trees do
everything to get attention like we do, except walk."
