In 1866, a German scientist and strong supporter of Darwin, Ernst
Haeckel, got into trouble for faking evidence. He supposedly showed that
developing embryos go through the earlier evolutionary stages of their
species. The scientific community investigated his so-called discovery
and found that he had faked his drawings. Unfortunately, textbooks today
– well over a century later – still present this faked evidence in
support of evolution.

As a result, many people today still believe this false scientific
theory. One of the most widely used "evidences" used to support this
idea today is the claim that the developing human fetus has "gill slits"
at one point in its development.

The truth is, the developing fetus has folds of skin around its neck
that contain the developing organs found in the neck. These folds have
nothing in common with gills. While no scientist today accepts this
theory – and it is even refuted in most encyclopedias – it can still be
found in textbooks used by high school students! Why? It would seem that
few scientists have the courage to challenge this idea they know is
wrong because it might make them appear to oppose evolution! But even
worse is that this anti-scientific idea continues to be used as a
"scientific" justification for abortion.

Yes, it's true. The wrong view on origins can result in some disastrous
"science" as well as human suffering!

How does one go about faking their own drawings?

Hmm, I see the word "fetus" has been dragged into this. You couldn't
possibly be building a straw man, could you?

Ah, yes, you were building a straw man after all...

...and this straw man of yours evolved into suffering, yet it's unclear
how human suffering enters into this fishnet stocking you've cast.

I don't know if it's more sad than it is funny or vice-versa, how
creationists are forced into telling discredited LIES because they can
offer NOT AN IOTA of positive scientific evidence for *anything* they
claim.

No evolutionist pays any attention to Ernst Haeckel, nor is his
discredited claim (discredited by evolutionists) of ontogeny
recapitulating phylogeny, although I understand that creationists
continue to worship him as a minor deity
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haeckel

Those slits are not gills, they do not turn into gills in humans, and
no biologist believes that they do. However, creationists are as
ignorant about this as they are about, well, everything:
http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2006/06/deep_homologies_in_the_pharyng.php

But the *fact* is that we have DNA inside us which has been passed
down over countless generations from organisms that once lived in the
sea. This is what *all* of the scientific evidence shows. There's
**NO** scientific evidence supporting a creation, as the creationists
themselves freely admit by RUNNING AWAY every single time we request
that they support their claims with science.

Neil Shubin, the Robert R. Bensley Professor of Organismal Biology and
Anatomy, Associate Dean of Organismal Biology and Anatomy and
Professor on the Committee of Evolutionary Biology at the University
of Chicago ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Shubin ) has written a
very good book about it:

it's a shame that creationists are too blind and stupid to read it.

Have a Happy Darwin day tomorrow!

I don't need to do that - scientists have already done it. Go read
the published papers on the topic. Humans differ from chimpanzees in
only a tiny fraction of their DNA. Here's one paper:

This is a lie. Find me ONE biology textbook commonly used in
introductory level biology courses in universities that uses Haeckel's
long discredited drawings as evidence.

Your abysmal ignorance does *not* constitute scientific evidence. If
you creationists were not so appallingly under-educated about science
you would know that *there* *is* *no* *missing* *link*. There's a
continual trail of fossils from apes to humans in the right places at
the right times.

Not only does the fossil record of human evolution - none of which was
known when Charles Darwin published "On the Origin..." - confirm this
beyond any reasonable doubt, our DNA gives further powerful evidence
of our close genetic relationship to the other primates. Our DNA is
closer to that of a chimpanzee than a rat's is to a mouse's. Are you
saying that rats and mice are unrelated?

But let's you and me thrash this out right here in this thread.

You post one item of positive scientific evidence for a creation or
for a creator and I will match that with an equivalent item for
abiogenesis or for evolution. We'll continue in that fashion and see
who runs out first. Your record of running out is well established,
of course:
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.talk.creationism/msg/f6663028cd4a8f67

Go ahead. Post your first item. I'll wait.

You already admitted here:

that humans and chimpanzees are the same kind.

You've been running with your tail tucked in ever since we first
encountered you. Here's the challenge, COWARD-FOR-CHRIST:
Please post one item of positive scientific evidence for a creator or
for a creation. The positive scientific evidence is defined with the
same definition we use for evidence for abiogenesis and for evolution:
a paper published in a standard, refereed professional science journal
which provides positive evidence for evolution or for abiogenesis.

All we're asking is for you to provide the same thing to the same
standard for a creation or for a creator.

If you run away, YOU LOSE.

If you think it's unreasonable to expect the same from you that we
expect from the evolutionists, YOU LOSE.

If you make excuses, YOU LOSE.

If you try to sidestep the challenge, YOU LOSE.

If you try to avoid the challenge by demanding answers to your own
question(s), YOU LOSE.

That clarify it, even for your creationist brain?

Now put up or shut up.

Well not only that, but Haeckel wasn't a believer in Darwinian
evolution. He was a Lamarkian. Trying to diss Darwin by casting
aspersions on Haeckel is, well, hilarious. Also futile.

Oh: and Darwin published _On the Origin of Species_ in 1859. Haeckel
didn't publish his material until 1866. Darwinian thought is *in no
way* based on the works of Haeckel.

There aren't any. Christers see *any* set of drawings comparing
embyos and immediately assume they were done by Haeckel. I did a
little research on high school and college texts about 5 years ago, to
see if the Haeckel drawings were used, and got only one college text
that used them as a front-plate to a chapter, and without any
comment. Haeckel was, if nothing else, a pretty damn good artist, and
his drawings have artistic merit, if not scientific merit.

The term "missing link" is not used in scientific discussions. The
moment it's uttered is the moment any prospect of intelligent
conversation disappears.

This is your claim, dukey. You said that there was a missing link.
Identify this missing link. Provide the before species and the after
species and we can take a look at it.

Take your pick:
Kenyanthropus platyops
Sahelanthropus tchadensis
Ardipithecus ramidus
Orrorin tugenensis

So, thanks for openly admitting (*after* *you* *lied* that there is a
massive gap in human evolution), that there are in fact NO GAPS
between Australopithecus - a true "ape-man" and modern humans.

So what's your position now - that humans were given souls *prior* to
Australopithecus, when our ancestors were still very much apes? lol!

And what *positive* *scientific* evidence do you have for this sudden
change from non-soul-bearing apes to apes which have souls? Do modern
apes (other than humans) have souls? Where's your *positive*
*scientific* evidence for that?

Now that's silly.

You can name an "after" because you have evidence of the after, and you can name
a "before" because you have evidence of the before, but you can't say that a

In order to claim that there is a missing link, you need to be able to
identify the before and the after. I have asked you to do that several
times now and I'll ask you again:

What is the before and what is the after species?

Using a deity as a substitute for knowledge is not a long term solution.

That's the poly of the insane creationist: The moment any "missing

and start ranting about TWO missing links.
