The conservative rising star Dr. Ben Carson said on a Tuesday talk
show that critics won’t shut him up and that among the most vicious of
his attackers were white liberals.

He made the comments on Mark Levin’s radio show during a discussion of
his opposition to same-sex marriage.

“They need to shut me up, they need to get rid of me,” Dr. Carson
said, as reported in Newsmax. “They can’t find anything else to
delegitimize me so they take my words, misinterpret them and try to
make it seem that I’m a bigot.”

Mr. Levin asked: And what about white liberals — how do they treat
you?

“They’re the most racist people there are because they put you in a
little category, a box,” Dr. Carson said. “How could you dare come off
the plantation?”

A lot of people do. I'm thinking severe drug abuse or some type of
mental abuse happened in her life in order to make her the way she
is.

She has been in a lot of trouble in her life. Tried emailing me at my
work email address, she really got in trouble for that. I think she
learned her lesson, but it has made her a very very bitter person
today. Well, she shouldn't have been so stupid.

Please be more specific. It looks to me like he parroted a right-wing talking point about homosexuality and then claimed victimhood. Are there any direct quotes from "white liberals" that allege the following?

1. That Dr. Carson should "know his place".
2. That Dr. Carson's career was helped by affirmative action?

Those would be racism. To me, a racist is someone who believes that some racial/ethnic groups are inherently inferior to others, and that a successful member of one of these "inferior" racial/ethnic groups could not possibly achieve their success without the help of affirmative action, etc.

Case in point - Rush Limbaugh suggesting that Donovan McNabb held the starting quarterback position for the Philadelphia Eagles for several years due to favoritism in the media and the NFL front office, not through his own talent and hard work.

Dr. Carson is a prominent and respected member of the medical community. Did any of his critics suggest that he couldn't possibly have achieved his status on his own, that he had help from affirmative action programs and the like?

I don't think so. To the best of my knowledge, his opinions were criticized, sometimes harshly, but he wasn't told to shut up and remember his place.

Or is there evidence to the contrary?

Let me elaborate on this a bit. Here's what he said on the Hannity Show:

"[Marriage is] a well-established, fundamental pillar of
society and no group, be they gays, be they NAMBLA, be
they people who believe in bestiality. It doesn’t matter
what they are. They don’t get to change the definition.”

So he equated homosexuality with bestiality, which is bad enough, but he also brought up NAMBLA (a mythical "man-boy love association"), he placed himself in a weird psychosexual tinfoil hat parallel universe that even Sarah Palin would hesitate to go.

And as a very unfortunate bonus, he labeled himself as a hateful bigot, applying the red-hot branding iron to his backside with his own hands. Why would he be surprised or shocked when his critics demanded that the branding iron be put right back in the fire to be heated up for another application?

Yeah, that's harsh, but this is what happens when a hated minority gains some measure of ability to speak up and when sympathetic allies become more visible about standing with them.

That's how free speech works, Robert. If that's not OK with you, you might consider giving up your Internet access, being like Emily Dickinson and never leaving your room.

I've read transcripts of Dr. Carson's recent interviews, etc. He's full of baloney. He's taking heat because of his expressed views on homosexuality, not his race.

If these liberals of which you speak "target races", why didn't they vote for Michael Steele for Senate in 2006? Steele is a heckuva nice guy (I met him!), and his politics, while conservative, aren't all that objectionable.

OK, so are you saying that Barack Obama became President primarily because he is black? Not by being a better candidate than John McCain and Mitt Romney? Remember what I said about how racists find it impossible to believe that people of color can achieve anything on their own merits? Coming back to what I said earlier, if you think that Obama's skin color was the deciding factor, you may be a racist.

others, and that a successful member of one of

Well, I don't use NewsMax or the Moonie-owned Washington Times as my primary sources, if that is what you mean. I have a high degree of confidence in my sources, and I always cross-check any information that challenges my credulity.
