AMA ignores health facts in homosexual advocacy
Chad Groening - OneNewsNow - 11/11/2009 9:30:00 AM
A conservative military watchdog says the American Medical Association (AMA)
apparently doesn't know the facts about the 1993 law passed by Congress that
prohibits homosexuals from serving in the military.
On Tuesday the homosexual activist group Servicemembers United hailed a
recent decision by the AMA to pass a resolution calling for the repeal of
the military's controversial "don't ask, don't tell" policy. "This is yet
another nail in the coffin of the flawed and outdated [policy], and it
should send a strong message to those who continue to blindly claim that
this policy works," states a Servicemembers United press release.
The AMA -- which, according to Servicemembers United, worked "exclusively"
with them on the resolution for nearly six months -- cited concerns that
military medical providers might divulge personal information about patients
to their commanders, thus exposing a service member's homosexuality and
resulting in their discharge.
But Elaine Donnelly, president of the Center for Military Readiness, says
the AMA's confidentiality concerns have nothing to do with the actual 1993
law, which says homosexuals are not eligible to be in the armed forces even
if they do not reveal it.
"The first thing that they ought to have done is read the actual statute,"
she suggests, "and then maybe they would have figured out what their
position should be. The second mistake they made was they consulted only
with the advocates of gays in the military. It would have made a lot more
sense to get balanced information."
And according to Donnelly, there is another reason why the AMA's support for
homosexuals in the military is misguided.
"An organization that concerns itself with health matters should know that
introducing into the military people who are at high risk of HIV infection
makes no sense," she asserts. "For the AMA to ignore all that and listen
only to an advocacy group that's looking at only part of the story really
reflects very poorly on the credibility of that organization."
Donnelly says ultimately it will be up to Congress, not the AMA, to decide
whether to lift the ban on homosexual military service -- and she believes
Congress will not do it.

Christians are like Slinkys. They're boring, but they'll put a smile on

That fact alone renders the credibility of this article down to zero.
That's as likely as a blizzard in Dallas in mid-August.

Homosexuality should be made mandatory for enlistment into the armed forces.
This would solve all homophobic problems. But a ban should be put in place
to avoid backward retreats from the non-homo enemy (or should that be
enema?)
Yes, Junkie Young, why ARE you here, were you clearly aren't wanted?
PDW
There is one thing that he could actually be useful for: to be strung up in
an NHL game that can't be resolved in regulation or overtime, which means
he'd be trussed up in the cage for at least three rounds at both ends, and
more if the shooters from either side were accurate that night.
So you can leave out gays and lesbians. The military needs to fix the
ability of women to successfully build meaningful military careers.
Which is ironic considering that during World War II, many homosexuals
joined the Marines, just to prove that they were tough enough. They also
fought and died for their country.
> They are no wanted,
Mostly because of idiots like you, who keep telling everyone that there is
something wrong with being gay. If you people who stop spreading hate for
just a generation or two, this situation would be fixed quickly.
> so why would anyone want to be where they clearly are not welcome?
Because some of us want to live in a society that is not dominated by
centuries old hatred.

Always a reliable source of news.

I am one of the few gay men willing to admit the health risks of the
homosexual lifestyle. One of the most obvious risks is HIV, which is
so prevalent among gay men that they are still forbidden to donate
blood.
The military is a very bloody occupation, and gay soldiers would
likely be wounded in battle, and would likely be called upon to donate
blood to wounded comrades. Even the most sophisticated and frequent
HIV tests can't detect the virus in the earliest stages of infection,
and in battle there might be no time to test donor blood at all.
Whether they like the statistics or not, gay men are at least 100x as
likely to be infected with HIV than straight men. And HIV is just one
of many diseases gay men are prone to, with Hepatitis also being very
prevalent.
All the studies showing gay men are as capable of military service as
straight men do not take infectious disease into account, and all such
studies are biased and conducted by 'scientists' with a political
agenda. The studies are designed to serve their own needs, not the
needs of the U.S. military, and certainly not the needs of the U.S.
soldiers who will be exposed to deadly contagious diseases in the name
of promoting 'tolerance.'
Or you're another dishonest homophobic bigot.

And I agree with you Ray.
Dank boy, you have been caught in so many lies that not even your own
mother would believe you if you told her you were her son. We know
you are not gay and we know you lie about everything else.
As for your HIV projections, they are also just so much more bull
pucky. In 2008 the US population was estimated as being upwards of
304,059,724. The CDC estimates that there are 1.1 million people in
the United States who are infected with HIV or have been diagnosed
with AIDS. 48% of that number are identified as MSM or men who have
sex with men which includes homosexual men, bisexual men, straight men
who have had sex with other men as prostitutes or in prison, men who
have experimented with male to male sex and other men who do not
classify themselves as either heterosexual or homosexual for whatever
reason. That means the number of people who have HIV/AIDS in the US
are 528,000. The CDC estimates that MSM's are roughly 5 to 8% of the
population. If we take the lower end of that estimate, that means
there are 15,202,986 million MSM in the United States. Given these
numbers then the number of MSM who have HIV/AIDS is 3.4% of the MSM
population
Promiscuous, unprotected sex, heterosexual as well as homosexual, is
the lifestyle (along with others) that risks HIV infection.
snip
Very likely.
Ah, another case of "they only need listen to me and my opinion to know the truth" syndrome.
Golly, and to think that that's what they're accusing the Military of doing...
"Reflections of credibility..."
Hard to see much of a reflection of anything in a kettle, let alone a pot...
