Seems to me he was too arrogant in thinking his cover up would never
be uncovered.

On the one hand he wants to be "doing something" (however ineffective
he believes it to be) to be able to say he's handling things, on the
other hand he can't let the cat out.

Seems to me, the priests confession to his psychiatrist would also be
privileged speech and not likely to become public knowledge, so
Mahony's actions were wrong on that level too.

Cover ups are always worse than the crimes. Mahoney is just as guilty
as the priests and church he was protecting. Complicit and part of
the crime himself.

See what RELIGION does to peoples' minds?

Adults no longer believe in the Tooth Fairy - but they still torture and
kill each other over ancient myths and superstitions.

"We all remember how many religious wars were fought for a religion of love
and gentleness; how many bodies were burned alive with the genuinely kind
intention of saving souls from the eternal fire of hell." --- Karl Popper

Either God wants to abolish evil and cannot, or he can but does not want to.
If he wants to but cannot he is impotent. If he can but does not want to, he
is wicked. If he neither can nor wants to, then he is both powerless and
wicked.
--- Epicurus, Greek philosopher, circa 300 B.C.

"Act of God" disasters like the Japanese earthquake expose the myth. Either
God can do nothing to stop catastrophes like this, or he doesn't care to, or
he doesn't exist. He is thus either impotent, evil, or imaginary.
--- CNN Belief Blog, 3-20-11

"With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and
evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that
takes religion."
--- Steven Weinberg, quoted in The New York Times, April 20, 1999

"Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false,
and by rulers as useful."
--- Seneca the Younger (4? BC - 65 AD)

Religions breed hypocrisy and self-righteousness.

Many Christians spend more time looking down on other people than up

The RCC, like the BSA, will not resolve this problem untill a vetting
process is implimented to keep homosexuals from their ranks. Straight
men do not have sex with young males, gays do. This, of course, will
present itself with all sorts of legal ramifications. It's a
'Catch-22'.

Sexual abuse of children always has been and always will be an issue
that society will be plagued with. Gays do not hold a monopoly of the
abusers but they do possess a significant proportion of the perverts.
One only need to read the news acccounts of the male-on-male abuse
that occurrs in the RCC, BSA, and many boys sporting events to see
these are not fabricated rantings of moral activists. Keepingn gays
away from young teenage boys will reduce these incidents 10 fold.
Shouldn;t the rights of these young boys supercede that the rights of
gays to have accesss to them?

If you weed out the pervs who like to rape children (of both sexes, but
primarily boys, since that's the vast majority of what is available), what
will be left of the priesthood?

That is pretty much it - that is why people enter (if you will pardon the
phrase) the priesthood.

statements?

Nevertheless, the above quote is dead-on, because, the thing is - business
in one breath tells us they don't need to be regulated (which is to say:
that they can morally self-regulate), then in the next breath tells us that
corporations are amoral entities which have no obligations to anyone except
their officers and shareholders, then in the next breath they tell us they
don't need to be regulated (that they can morally self-regulate) ...

The "massive changes" amounts to an attempt to use homosexuality as a scape
goat and to completely ignore the cynicism and cowardice that made possible
the cover-up in the first place, a cover-up that continues to this day. The
result being that the Church continues to lose credibility, respect and
membership.

Documents detailing the cover-up -are- evidence, Dook.

>The DA tells the Cardinal he an't do anything without a filed complaint.

So?

That means that the DA could have any level of evidence up to and
including a confession signed in blood and the DA -still- wouldn't be
able to prosecute.

That doesn't mean a crime didn't occur.

You're not too bright, are you, Dook?

No, Dook, you don't.

And, as I'm already aware of your capacity for lying and obfuscation,

simple assertion of knowledge.

The DA can't prosecute without a complainant.

You said so above.

That's not the same as saying that the documents that detail the
cover-up aren't evidence.

The Catholic Church is a corrupt, venal organization, and is only
being defended by corrupt, venal Catholics.

Documents from the late 1980s show that Archbishop Roger M. Mahony and another
archdiocese official discussed strategies to keep police from discovering that
children were being sexually abused by priests.

But until all these court cases are settled, the claim by duke that the

He can't. The last of the cases pretty much ended 20 years ago. The scandal

were female.

Half of the victims (50%) were between the ages of ten and fourteen

Everyone who follows this in the news already knows it, which makes you a
deliberate ignoramus and church sycophant.

But see recent convictions and acts below.

Suit: Priest 'coerced' church member into sexual acts - as recent as 10
years ago (2003).
CHICAGO (IL)
Chicago Sun-Times

A woman is suing the Chicago Archdiocese for at least $300,000, claiming a
priest who performed services at a west suburban church "coerced" her into a
sexual relationship.

The plaintiff, listed as Jane Doe, was a member of the St. Francis Xavier
Parish in west suburban LaGrange when the priest "coerced" her into sexual
acts in 2003, according to the lawsuit filed Friday in Cook County Circuit
Court.

The suit claims the plaintiff and the priest, who is also a licensed
clinical psychologist, had a close relationship that included counseling for
her depression.

The plaintiff alleges the priest took advantage of her "emotional
dependence" and engaged in an ongoing sexual relationship with her.

Ex-priest sentenced for indecent assault - as recent as 12 years ago.
NORTHERN IRELAND
UTV

Victims of clerical abuse have reacted with anger after a former priest, who
pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting a schoolgirl, was given probation
and community service.

Terence Rafferty, of Chestnut Grove in Newry, was a priest in St Peter's
Parish in Lurgan when the four offences took place during a six month period
in 2001.

Rafferty, who was 38 years old at the time, maintained the physical
relationship he had with the 16-year-old was consensual.

He stepped aside from his responsibilities as a priest following the
allegation, which was made against him in April 2011.

Jury convicts priest, teacher in Philadelphia abuse case - an indecent act
as recent as 15 years ago.

On Wednesday afternoon, a Pennsylvania jury found two men guilty of sexually
assaulting the same altar boy in the late 1990s, the latest convictions in
the ongoing sexual abuse scandal in the Philadelphia archdiocese.
The jury of eight men and four women found Fr. Charles Engelhardt guilty of
indecent assault of a minor, corruption of a minor, and conspiracy, but
could not come to agreement on a count of indecent sexual assault, according
to The Associated Press.

In addition, Bernard Shero, a former Catholic school teacher at St. Jerome
Catholic School, was found guilty of rape and indecent sexual assault, among

married, or is my friend just giving me sh!t for fun? I love her and I

ROFL do you think Mahoney will give you a reach round for trying to defend

Or they're not really any closer to God than a common pervert.

Any more pitiful excuses for today?

Funny...Patrick and Duke both insist this is the case.

It must be what they put in all the church bulletins when the scandal broke..

Because the documents show that a crime was being covered up.

Raping children is a crime.

The documents show that the Cardinal was covering up the rape of
children.

However, the way the law was written at the time the crime was
committed, the victim (or their guardians) needed to file a criminal
complaint against the rapist and be willing to testify in court or
else the police had no power to intervene.

Remember all those old cop shows where the police feared they'd have
to let a rapist go because they couldn't get the victim to testify in
court? But, they'd go to the victim and give some stirring speech and
persuade her to testify in the last act?

Well, the laws that those shows were based on were real.

The laws have since been changed, so were the exact same circumstances
to occur today, the police wouldn't need anyone to file a criminal
complaint, they could just slap the bastard in irons and use the
documents as evidence for a conviction in court.

But, because retro-active prosecution is illegal in this country,
meaning that any crime has to be prosecuted under the laws as they
existed at the time the crime was committed, the police are powerless
to prosecute Mahony, even though they know that he's a dirty,
disgusting, criminal Catholic scum bag he is.

Does that help, rightard?

How does it feel to be a member of a criminal organization, rightard?

Hey...

You aren't by chance diddling little kids yourself, are you?

>Because some whiner like you is demanding 30 pieces of silver?

I'm not demanding any silver at all, rightard.

You seem to be misinformed.

Heh heh...

Lying racist rightard socialists...

Batshit crazy and dogshit stupid, every single last one of you.
