More priests fall out of the closet.

One of the final paragraphs reads:

* "The Vatican should stop this charade of secrecy, identify the
perpetrators and provide the victims fair compensation," said Berry,
author of "Render unto Rome," an award-winning book on church finances
with a section on the Legion.

In looking at the picture of the Pope putting his hand on someone's
forehead as if he had a supernatural power, I was inspired with an idea
that could help the Vatican regain some of its popularity: Have a
fundraiser activity called "Pope for a day" where the lucky winner can
actually fill in for the Pope for a whole day.

• This is good news about the RCC W. At least these priests were
apparently having "inappropriate sexual relations with women" - and not
sodomizing altar-boys.

God idea. Just remember that I will be running for Pope again the next
time on the same platform as I did the last time.

You will become a Cardinal if you support me and will not have to wear
the robes.
Pope for a day will now be an option for some.

More than likely the women priests will be allowed first choice.

I think you'd make a fine Pope -- the Catholic Church is way overdue
for some house cleaning, and I'm confident that you could see this
through to fruition.

I have no interest in power (I have no need for it), but I also won't
turn it down for fear of someone else receiving it who might abuse it
as long as I don't have to do any cooking or cleaning.

That means that atheism isn't a sin.

(According to Friedrich Nietzsche, "sin" is a Jewish invention.)

Nope, purgatory is the stopping off point on the way to heaven. As an atheist,
you deny any use for God, and in doing do, reject any desire to go to heaven.
That leaves only hell as the final solution.

Nope, sorry. An agnostic is one that finds the evidence unconvincing and hence
waits for more to go on. An atheist flat out rejects the evidence and denies
the existence of God. The problem is that there is NO evidence for the
non-existence of God. So therefore you are can be nothing but an atheist
wannabe, and not an atheist because there is zero evidence for the non-existence
of God.

But it's still all over your head. The problem is that you WILL lose.

Atheists often do see a use for fictional characters, such as a "god"
being a major element in a larger scheme to control significant numbers
of people using scare tactics, but this in no way validates (or even
attempts to validate) the existence of said fictional character.

There is no position held by atheists as it is merely a classification
of the "absence of belief in deities and supernatural agents." The
oppositional attitude that you incorrectly claim to be a fundamental
characteristic of "atheism" is actually an anti-theistic position that
many, but not all, atheists and theists both happen to hold...

http://www.atheistfrontier.com/glossary/atheist.pl

For example, an atheist who actively opposes theology, and the beliefs
that the theology promotes, is being anti-theistic in doing so. The
same applies to theists who oppose other theologies in the same vein,
except that they have made an exception with not being anti-theistic
about their own theology. (In my experience, it seems to be far less
common for agnostics to hold an anti-theistic view.)

It's important to note the distinction that the atheist classification,
as well as the theistic and anti-theistic positions, are not
categorically applicable when someone challenges proof of a claim
regardless of whether it was presented as part of a theistic or
anti-theistic position -- this is just skepticism.

The challenges often arise in the face of someone prosyletizing, which
really is just another attempt by someone to impose their corrupt moral
views and virtues on others.

> >(According to Friedrich Nietzsche, "sin" is a Jewish invention.)
>
> It's defined by God, not fn.

Nietzsche didn't define it; he merely identified its inventors.

Fidem Turbare, the non-existent atheist goddess
"God (n.); A casual and intellectually sparse rationalisation of nerve
impulses within the human brain, conflated with social and societal
expediencies, such as the division of labour and the wielding of
authority, resulting in a formal definition of a personification of an
authority that should not be questioned."

There is no objective physical evidence that there is a hell, nor that
anyone has "soul" which will survive his/her body, so the threat of
hellfire is just propaganda.

There is just as much evidence for the non-existence of any god as for
the existence of any god, so to choose to believe one over the other
deserves no more than a coin toss.

But a-theists (non-theists) choose not even to flip that coin.

I can be what I call an atheist, however you choose to miss-use the
term, by failure to have any beliefs at all about the existence of any
gods.

I rather suspect, but cannot be sure, that there are none, on the
grounds that if there really were any, there should be some sort of
objective physical evidence showing it.

That presumes that I have anything to lose, like an immortal soul, but
there is no more evidence for the existence of human souls at all, much
less of their surviving their bodies, than there is for gods.

I guarantee both.

Look, I don't care if you continue the "Duck Armenian - Armenian" thing. It
doesn't bother me. But why waste your time with it? What value do YOU get from
wasting your time putting it in. That's the part I don't understand. Like,
if an Armenian is your worst enemy in life, I can see you labeling me like that.
I am what I am, not what you childishly change it to. You could change it to
"duck devil duck devil", and that wouldn't bother me either, but at least it
would be representative of something you don't like.

Then why, with such a supposedly peaceful person as Jesus in their
hearts have your RCs killed so many in the name of Jesus?

You bear guilt for the blood shed by your Church in all its "holy" wars,
including those against the Moslems and against the protestants, neither
group which would have come into existence if your group were a true
religion.

Yes, and old copies of the Reader's Digest.

I bet all those souls in Purgatory were glad when the Church decided to
cancel Purgatory's existence. Apparently Purgatory just wasn't showing the
profits it used to. It all comes down to the bottom line.

• I don't think the L.A. Times is infallible. For example they failed to
carry an embarrassing story about Mormons that was carried by other major
newspapers in CA. - note - The Mormon church owns a large % of
Times-Mirror stock. This stock purchase came about after the L.A. Times
published a series of eyebrow-raising stories about Mormon beliefs -
including what supposedly goes on in Mormondom's Celestial Impregmatorium
where Mormon guys supposedly copulate their way to Godhood (yes, with a
capital G) and are rewarded with their own earth-like planet to rule over

The bottom line is that if you want straight talk about a religion, try
a newspaper that the religion can not influence. This especially applies
to larger groups such as Mormons, Baptists and Catholics

I was just discussing this with a Catholic on IRC. He wanted the
council where Limbo was cooked up.

http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/cti_documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20070419_un-baptised-infants_en.html

The Catholic Church's belief that Baptism is necessary for salvation was
powerfully expressed in the Decree for the Jacobites at the Council of
Florence in 1442: There is no other way to come to the aid [of little
children] than the sacrament of Baptism by which they are snatched from
the power of the devil and adopted as children of God

The Pope contradicted that teaching. So much for the infalliblity of
the magisterium of the Church.

The RCC is petty clear on this and has been for most of it's existence.
The pope is or the magisterium was infallible under rare circumstances.
To date, the pope saying he was infallible and Mary being assumed into
heaven have been the big two things that they said were infallible.

Yes, the existence of Purgatory was not an "infallible doctrine". Of course
this did not prevent Popes from collecting huge sums of money by declaring
(infallibly one assumes) people's times in Purgatory lessened. It must be a
sacred mystery how the Pope can infallibly grant indulgences to lessen time
in a place that does not exist.

We don't have any infallible popes.
We never have had one.
The doctrine of Papal Infallibility does not mean the Pope is always right
in all his personal teachings. Catholics are quite aware that, despite his
great learning, the Pope is very much a human being and therefore liable to
commit human error. On some subjects, like sports and manufacturing, his
judgment is liable to be very faulty. The doctrine simply means that the
Pope is divinely protected from error when, acting in his official capacity
as chief shepherd of the Catholic fold, he promulgates a decision which is
binding on the conscience of all Catholics throughout the world. In other
words, his infallibility is limited to his specialty--the Faith of Jesus
Christ.
In order for the Pope to be infallible on a particular statement, however,
four conditions must apply: 1) he must be speaking ex cathedra . . . that
is, ``from the Chair'' of Peter, or in other words, officially, as head of
the entire Church; 2) the decision must be for the whole Church; 3) it must
be on a matter of faith or morals; 4) the Pope must have the intention of
making a final decision on a teaching of faith or morals, so that it is to
be held by all the faithful. It must be interpretive, not originative; the
Pope has no authority to originate new doctrine. He is not the author of
revelation--only its guardian and expounder. He has no power to distort a
single word of Scripture, or change one iota of divine tradition. His
infallibility is limited strictly to the province of doctrinal
interpretation, and it is used quite rarely. It is used in order to clarify,
to ``define,'' some point of the ancient Christian tradition. It is the
infallibility of which Christ spoke when He said to Peter, the first Pope:
``I will give (o thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou
shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven.'' (Matt. 16:19).
Certainly Christ would not have admonished His followers to ``hear the
church'' (Matt. 18:17) without somehow making certain that what they heard
was the truth--without somehow making the teaching magisterium of His Church
infallible.

For a complete understanding of the Pope's infallibility, however, one more
thing should be known: His ex cathedra decisions are not the result of his
own private deliberations. They are the result of many years--sometimes
hundreds of years--of consultation with the other bishops and theologians of
the Church. He is, in effect, voicing the belief of the whole Church. His
infallibility is not his own private endowment, but rather an endowment of
the entire Mystical Body of Christ. Indeed, the Pope's hands are tied with
regard to the changing of Christian doctrine. No Pope has ever used his
infallibility to change, add, or subtract any Christian teaching; this is
because Our Lord promised to be with His Church until the end of the world.
(Matt. 28:20). Protestant denominations, on the other hand, feel free to
change their doctrines. For example, all Protestant denominations once
taught that contraception was gravely sinful; but since 1930, when the
Church of England's Lambeth Conference decided contraception was no longer a
sin, virtually all Protestant ministers in the world have accepted this
human decision and changed their teaching.

Well, you're finally getting close after all this time. But you still missed
the point - no residents of Hell enjoy the succubuses and incubusses - only
satan does.

That's an EASY one.

1. They have NEVER contradicted each other.
2. Reason - Limbo was never an ex-cathedra statement.

Right, there have only been 2 such statements in the history of the RCC - and
both involved the Blesses Virgin Mary - her Immaculate Conception and her
Assumption into Heaven, body and soul.

You're actually finally starting to catch on, rl.

Yep, John 3:5-7 confirms it.

Actual scripture takes preference over the Council of Florence.

Psalm 51:5 (New International Version)
5 Surely I was sinful at birth,
sinful from the time my mother conceived me.

Romans 5:12-13 (New International Version)
Death Through Adam, Life Through Christ
12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through
sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned
13 To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not
charged against anyones account where there is no law.

Gosh durn, rl, it's amazing how bad you get embarrassed by Holy Script.

Did WS get baptized? If not, he may be toying with the flames.

It's better than that. It's led by the Holy Spirit.
