It borders on blasphemy for anyone to market this holy man's image for
commercial profit. The image of the pontiff is the very symbol of decency
and should only be replicated with the utmost discretion.

No more 'Pope on a rope', says the Vatican
It is one of the most recognised images in the world - the Pope, hand held
aloft in blessing. Increasingly, however, the Pope's name or image is found
in less traditional contexts - from soap products and snowstorms to
endorsing tomato paste. In a move to control this growing use or misuse of
the papal brand, the Holy See has announced that in future anyone wanting to
use the face or name of the Holy Father or Supreme Pontiff must obtain
Vatican approval.
Robin Fry, a copyright lawyer from the London firm Beachcrofts, said: "Popes
throughout history have been plagued by their image being reproduced,
whether as little trinkets, or, recently, mechanical dolls. There has even
been a Pope soap on a rope. But like any other business, the Vatican needed
a clear intellectual property programme so that it may control uses of its
key expressions - not for commercial purposes, but simply to retain the
integrity of the words.

Last I checked blasphemy was defined something along the line of
"Irreverence toward something considered sacred or inviolable; The act
of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence for any
religion's deity or deities; The act of claiming the attributes of a
deity."
Since the Pope is not a deity nor is he per se sacred or inviolable.
He is a man like all other men. Now some may claim he is himself
blasphemous because he claims the attributes of a deity by claiming to
speak for a deity. But that is neither here or now. The fact is that
as a man, making fun of the pope is the right of all as an exercise of
free speech.

1975.
It was a Holy Year, or Anno Santo, and the Holy Doors of the Vatican were
opened for Catholic Pilgrims like myself to pass through and earn the Papal
Indulgence/exemption from purgatory.
I was staying in a pleasant little Catholic Hostel run by Ukrainian nuns
which was very competitively priced.(I even managed to have a grope with one
of the novice nuns behind the chicken shed in the courtyard of the hostel-
well, I was only 13 at the time but very advanced for my age)
As well as buying the pope- shaped magic blessed Holy Water I also bought a
huge set of massive wooden rosary beads (comedy size) which were blessed by
the Pope during a semi- private audience I had with him.( a semi -private
audience, for those unaware, consists of about 1500-2000 people)
I guess you've never been to the Vatican yourself, duke.
It was already well commercialized when I went there in 1975 and even more
so when I visited again in 1984.
I'd hate to think what it is like now.
Actually, I already know, check this out
http://www.romegiftshop.com/vaso.html
Please note that all representations of the Pope are copyrighted- you can be
sure he'll get his share of the loot.
Or, if you want the genuine Vatican stuff sold only through the three
authorized shops within the Vatican, try this
http://www.savellireligious.com/catholic_store/vatican_shop.htm
You see, duke, that's the problem- your bullshit religion doesn't even try
to hide the fact that it's one simple function is to fleece its gullible
flock.
Why, they even refer to you as "sheep" in the literature.
Fortunately, I was able to figure that out myself at 13.
Maybe you're a very slow learner.

That's right- I can remember seeing dozens of the poor creatures surrounding
the Vatican City and all of the other notable locations and Cathedrals in
Rome.
There was quite a contrast between those poor, desperate homeless creatures
and the sumptuous luxury they were begging in or near to.
I was unable to reconcile that at 13, because to my simple, childlike mind,
I couldn't see why the church couldn't sell off a couple of priceless
articles to help them out.
After all, Father Kirkpatrick had already explained that Jesus wanted us to
abandon our worldly goods and follow him, so it was hard for me to figure
out why the Pope couldn't do that.
Father Kirkpatrick seemed to have a little trouble explaining that one too

Supposing that anyone even had a previous life is an RC heresy, for
which in previous times the RC's might well have burned Puke at the
stake and condemned his soul to hell.

We know that Puke himself admits that "the bible" is not entirely
accurate.
But Puke himself does not seem able to distinguish the parts that must
be taken with a grain of salt from those which may be taken straight.

If that allegedly "holy" water has no power or virtue over and above
ordinary water, then the sale of it as special is a mere scam.
Much like the sale of indulgences, for which the RC Church is also
notorious.
Only since 1929, though it has been a See (Episcopate) much longer.
And even today The See and the City have different passports, so the
nationhood of the See is a bit ambiguous.

While the Pope of the time may not have been directly involved in the
cover ups of priestly pedophilia, for all acts of his priests the Pope
is ultimately responsible.
I understand it much more than you ever will...it's a slapstick of "do as
our god says, or we'll hurt you", never mind that no god has ever exhibited

It's time to shut it down.

"Do as we say our God says."
The arrogance of religious leaders can leave one breathless at times.

What luxury? It all belongs to long-missing others. The Vatican is only the

Hell will freeze over first, west loop.
Which itself is a logical fallacy. If he only shows up to those that
believe in him, then the person is using their belief, i.e. subjective
opinion, as an explanation. It is a selection fallacy. It also means
that there is no OBJECTIVE evidence that your deity exists since
objective evidence does not require that the person believe in your
deity in order to see the evidence that your deity exists.

I understand it much, much better than you.
Victims of a con- trick, especially when in denial, never have a clue about
what is going on.
I worked out that con- trick on my own at 13, from evidence I had seen with
my own eyes in Rome.
Maybe one day you'll see it too, but I doubt it.
Tell you what, duke, why don't you get yourself down to the Vatican and take
a look for yourself- you might be surprised at what you see.
The turning point for myself was on the steps of some cathedral, where we
were supposed to climb the steps on our knees, kissing the blood of St Peter
at the point where he was supposed to have been crucified upside down, and
seeing some poor elderly woman struggling up it with bleeding kneecaps,
surrounded by the souvenir sellers and pickpockets, and thinking..."This is
just complete bullshit"
All of this wealth, all of this power, has absolutely fuck all to do with
some supposed creator, this is just the work of egotistical, mean spirited
controlling human beings who simply devised a way to make other people do
what THEY wanted and profit by it.
THAT was where my faith in the church collapsed and was soon followed by my
faith in God.
You simply haven't reached that stage yet, but if you pull the wool from
your own eyes and stop trying to turn yourself into a mindless, controlled
sheep you might muster up enough of a clue to go and tell God's Shepherd
where to stick his crook.

Yeah, I forgot about all of the other high value property the church owns.
One of the biggest landowners in the world, aren't they?
Which only shows that you do not understand anything that was related
to you. Here are the definitions of each again since you cannot
remember them from the last time you were told.
logical fallacy
a fallacy in logical argumentation
Fallacy:
1. a deceptive, misleading, or false notion, belief, etc.: That the
world is flat was at one time a popular fallacy.
2. a misleading or unsound argument.
3. deceptive, misleading, or false nature; erroneousness.
4. Logic. any of various types of erroneous reasoning that render
arguments logically unsound.
Paradox:
1. a statement or proposition that seems self-contradictory or absurd
but in reality expresses a possible truth.
2. a self-contradictory and false proposition.
3. any person, thing, or situation exhibiting an apparently
contradictory nature.
4. an opinion or statement contrary to commonly accepted opinion.
A person cannot be a logical fallacy since a logical fallacy is a
debating/discussion construct, and despite your delusions, I do not
live "life as a paradox". I have not been showing a contradictory
nature at all, but rather a fairly straight forward one. You have
shown that you do not even understand what a paradox is, and you
refuse to even try. As a hint, in the omnipotence paradox, definition
2 is the one that applies.
Your statement is in reality a logical fallacy, specifically an ad
hominem, or an attack on the person. This is one of your favorite
logical fallacies to employ, given that you use it so frequently.

Self-deception is not the same as ""looking".
The Vatican is known to have the greatest collection of plunder outside
the Louvre, and if all of it were opened up might even outdo the Louvre.
Much of its riches are plunder taken by military popes, or bought with
the alms of the poor or the sale of indulgences.

Well, they covered up priestly pedophlia in the US and Eire, and very
likely a whole bunch of other countries, for years and years, until the
stink grew too big to cover up any more.
According to Dante, a large part of it already is frozen over.
So it shouldn't take long to freeze over the rest of it.

To say that one must believe in your god first before being able to see
that he exists is a form of self delusion.
And, according to Dante, there are quite a few bishops and popes
already in residence.

The church is the world's biggest commercial enterprise... ever.
They've been making a ton of money for hundreds of years, mostly tax- free.

Of the seven states east of the Mississippi I haven't yet visited, Michigan
is one of them (the other six are all of New England). At 19:44 EST, Hell
is a couple of degrees below freezing, but at least the winds (anywhere from
NE to SE) are fairly light, 5-10 MPH. Here in Houston, we're in the low to
mid 40s, but the winds are still in the 20-25 MPH range, expected to slow
down to 10-15 later tonight.
