Leftist Blogs Gleeful Over Violent Attack on Pope Benedict

Patrick Madrid ^ | 12-28-09 | Patrick Madrid

Posted on 28 December 2009 18:54:26 by Patrick Madrid

"It was only minutes after Pope Benedict XVI was violently attacked on
Christmas Eve attack on the Pope at the start of midnight Mass in
Saint Peters, I offer up to the Lord this scriptural prayer of
encouragement for the Holy Father, that He would continue to protect
and strengthen him in the face of his enemies:

May God "deliver you from the way of evil, from men of perverted
speech, who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of
darkness, who rejoice in doing evil and delight in the perverseness of
evil; men whose paths are crooked, and who are devious in their
ways" (Proverbs 2:12-15).

Conservative columnist Theodore Kettle comments on the shameful
display of glee in some circles about the attack on the pope:

It was only minutes after Pope Benedict XVI was violently attacked
on Christmas Eve by a woman described by authorities as mentally
deranged, but leftist blogs lit up with joy over the assault.

The Daily Kos’s “Late Afternoon/Early Evening Open Thread,” for
example, featured this posting at 8:10 PM Eastern Time: “Having just
about enough of this male dominance bull---t, one bold Italian woman
ran up and knocked down the Pope and a Cardinal!”

The woman, Susanna Maiolo, 25, was actually Swiss-Italian, and
while the Pontiff himself came out of the episode unhurt and able to
complete his celebration of Midnight Mass, 87-year-old French Cardinal
Roger Etchegaray was left with broken bones requiring hip replacement
surgery.

The comments that soon appeared on blogs known to be critical of
the social teachings of the Catholic Church were so harsh that even
fellow bloggers of similar ideological bent were outraged.

In a Dec. 26 a Daily Kos article entitled “Anti-Catholicism,” a
“former Republican” Catholic woman and “forester/biologist” from the
Deep South wrote, “I logged onto HuffingtonPost.com and read about the
Pope getting knocked over by a mentally disturbed woman.

While several people pointed out the Pope’s age and how this could
have easily resulted in a broken hip, many more rejoiced in the
event.” One blogger’s “attack on Catholicism and Catholics was met
with near universal approval within the HuffingtonPost community.”

She added, “I have read numerous, nearly identical comments and
posts at Daily Kos.”

A number of HuffPost bloggers were also amazed at the venom of
some of the responses, like one woman who observed, “This incident
with the Pope has brought lots of Christmas cheer to the HP community.
Wow.” . . . (continue reading)

LOL! It must be some really special world you inhabit where you can even
find a way to blame leftist hatred and bile on the right.

Sound of Trumpet is a troll and spammer, and prospers
because Google, with all its supposed power and wealth,
can't manage Google Groups correctly.

Some theorize from the offensiveness and weirdness of
articles that SoT posts that his, her, its or their intention
is to defame Christianity.

I seem to recall these cheerful lines:

They shot the Pope
They shot the Pope's ass
They shot the Pope and I feel good.

Amen and preach it! Like, there's this Italian blog where the owner
posted an article about popes being planted upside down in the ground
and having their feet set on fire.

Oh wait, that's from the Inferno section of Dante's Divine Comedy.

When Dr. George Tiller was murdered, the comments sections at rightard
blogs like Free Republic and Red State were overflowing with happy
talk about the glorious victory for "pro-lifers". Can you see that

Thanks for continually posting this!
Every time I read it it brings a smile to my face.. wanna know why?
Because the Pope is an arrogant, hypocritical old fuck.
He's head of one of the most evil institutions around in the world today,
that causes misery, disease and poverty for hundreds of thousands worldwide.
So yes, when he falls on his fat ass it makes me laugh.
It makes me very, very gleeful.
I hope it happens next year, too, so I can laugh about it then.
They should make it a yearly event.

Don't forget all those "pro-life activists" who have been killed in
auto accidents or died of heart disease. Obviously God hates you.

Saw them in '84, Rembrandt Pussyhorse tour. They finished,
left stage, but left their "don't touch me, daddy" tape loop
running. The audience looked stunned after two straight
hours of sensory overload. No one could move until the tape
stopped.

I'll defend to the death my opinion that *that* was one of
the best shows I've ever seen.

So the old Nazi got bitchslapped by a female. He has a lot more than
that coming from women. Makes ya really wish that there is a god and

Well, it's a good thing that I haven't done that and that what you
"consider" isn't the objective benchmark by which all things are

Soon after the murder Pouillon's estranged son James M. Pouillon, a
podiatrist in Grand Rapids, criticized his father in an online post.
This post, which was quickly circulated in the media, attributed
Pouillon's activism to a "pathological hatred of women", claimed that
he had wished to provoke others into violence against him, and

And another article of interest
http://michiganmessenger.com/26461/son-of-slain-owosso-man-says-his-father-really-didnt-care-about-abortion
Son of slain Owosso man says his father ‘really didn’t care about
abortion’
By Todd A. Heywood 9/17/09 1:36 PM The son of slain Owosso anti-
abortion rights protester James Pouillon told the Flint Journal that
abortion foes have selected the wrong man to lionize as a martyr for
their cause.

Grand Rapids podiatrist James M. Pouillon has not had contact with his
father since 2001. But he isn’t staying silent about the way his
father is being called a martyr by some in the anti-abortion rights
movement.

“I don’t think he really cared about the unborn,” said Dr. James M.
Pouillon, a Grand Rapids podiatrist, who had not spoken to his father
since 2001. “I don’t think he was really pro-life.”

Pouillon’s sister disagreed with the doctor, saying her father was a
Christian acting on his beliefs.

“He died out there doing what he believed in,” 26-year-old Mary Jo
Pouillon of Owosso said at a memorial service Wednesday.

But the son argues that the actions of his father, who would regularly
protest, carry signs and yell at passers-by, was all part of a larger
plan. The younger Pouillon called his father a “sociopath who
terrorized a small town while hiding behind his First Amendment.”

“You could speak with a couple of hundred people who don’t agree with
me, so who is right? I’m not going to try to yell louder than my dad’s
friends,” he said.

The son also said his father used his abortion stance to terrorize
women and said his father abused his mother, Mary Lou Kadera. The two
divorced in 1987 and she died in a 2001 car accident.

In a 1992 interview with The Flint Journal, the activist acknowledged
years of marital problems, including a fight where he pushed his wife
into a piano. Three days after the fight, he told the Journal that
“the Holy Ghost came on me.”

The senior Pouillon has been hailed as a martyr by Cal Zastrow of
Kawkawlin, chairman of the Michigan Citizens for Life.

Pouillon was gunned down last week Friday while standing in front of
Owosso High School, something he would do regularly. Officials have
said the alleged shooter, Harlan Drake, told them he was offended by
Pouillon’s graphic signs and felt children should not have to view
them.

An attorney representing the Drake family put out a statement saying
Drake was suffering from depression and that they did not believe the
shooting had anything to do with abortion.

Drake is also accused of shooting the 61-year-old owner of a gravel
pit in Owosso Township. Drake is in jail without bond awaiting trail
on charges of first degree murder and weapons violations.

Standing around with an undramatic sign does not sound much like a
madman, nor very provocative. You would think a madman would at least
promise imminent hellfire.

Having worked as a clinic escort myself, I can tell you from personal
experience that these guys do a lot more than stand around with
signs. And a lot of them are pretty creepy. What's more, I'd say
that Pouillon's own son knew him better than you.

None of that excuses what happened to him. The point here is that
claims were made that leftists were happy about Pouillon's murder.
And that just isn't so.
