Anyone know how long the demo cd-rom
of 3d studio max lasts for and what
other limitations (if any) there are?

Also, if a time limit is imposed on the
software, what's stopping people from
keeping a spare hard drive - formatting
and reinstalling max demo every time
the time expires?

as for the first question, the time limit is 15 days, and as far as i know, there are no other limitations. but for the second part, i don't really know.

There is a 15 day limit on the demo but other than that it is exactly the same as the full version with no limitations.

I don't think you'd be able to keep re-formatting a 2nd hard drive as the details of the time period are probably kept in the registry. Might be able to do it if you had a dual boot system and kept re-installing one or other of the OS' I suppose but why would you want to do that. You'd get fed up with it after a while I think....

People answered the first question. As for the second, if you don't think
it's stupid, it ain't going to work... time info is normally written into
the registry... unless you reformat the HDD on which Windows resides every 2
weeks. Why bother?

The 3dsmax4 demo lasts for 15 days. During the 15 days it's fully
functional as far as I can tell.

I'm not sure what prevents a reinstall, maybe someone else can answer
that one. -Doug

well seeing as you can ghost a hard drive with o/s etc i think you could
make the idea work
with say 2 hard drives swaping every 2 weeks...not the honest way to do
things but cheaper than
the full price of max 4...of course you can't get any plugins this way, and
no manuals either...
oh and you can't run a animation business this way...you'd get found out and
closed down by autodesk
and banned from owning any discreet/autodesk product for life..

still if you want to extend your try out period before deciding on max or
maya or soft xsi it is an option.
