Dear Fellow Allston-Brighton Residents:

Thanks for the supportive words from members of the forum. A short
film just out from filmmakers who have been following Mission Hill
School since September, and in collaboration with a Huffington Post
columnist and CNN contributer, gives you a glimpse of who and what you
are supporting. Please watch:

This Weds. 5.23 at noon, Boston City Council votes to approve or
reject the plan to tear our thriving school out of its Roxbury
community, over the protests of staff, families, and residents, and
more than 525 petition signers.

BOB.
THANK YOU for sending this u tube video. As an original early childhood teacher in my past life, my discouragement years ago of how school systems did not treat the "whole person," had me quit. After seeing this video, I wanted to jump out of my present job and sign up to bring my life experience and love of teaching into that school.
As a parent with children who raised them here in Boston, not as a Boston native....when I first moved here, I was advised by my lawyer that I had few options for my kids education.

Brookline or Newton or private school. That was 34 years ago. I lived in Brookline a long time and paid high rent, to ensure quality education and they thrive. As soon as they were set, I moved to Brighton. What saddened me most when I watched the video was the lack of men as teachers who bring a special quality to children. How sad that there aren't incentives to bring more men into the education system. It is drastically missing in the education arena. Teachers will never be paid for the time, effort and commitment they put in, at least not in my lifetime. I applaud these teachers and the schools mission and hope that the Boston CIty Council keeps this school in tact and spread its vital mission to other schools.

Let us hope for the best.

Thank you, Barbara, for this moving account. It is so rare to teach to
the whole child and the whole community. This progressive approach is
often sadly reserved for private education. Although the video does
not show it, there also some great male teachers at Mission Hill
School, especially in the later grades. We see the school as foresting
a sense of inquiry and innovation; it could be a model to use in other
schools across BPS -- but that is of course far from the case today.
