Very short article about helping Monarch Butterflies avoid extinction (some comments are worth reading too):

It would be very helpful, and not only to Monarchs, but other beneficial insects as well, if parts of the Chestnut Hill Reservation were seeded with milkweed and wild flowers, and not mowed. Ditto for some other DCR-owned parkland (e.g., along the Charles). Not mowing certain areas would probably also save DCR some money.

At the Fresh Pond Reservation (managed by the City of Cambridge), an effort to grow milkweed has been in effect for some years now.  Here is info. about this year’s planting event.
