Dear Friends,
Spring is finally in the air, and we have some exciting news and dates for you! We now have three growing projects involving a local school, a walled garden and a community park - you are most welcome to take part in those that appeal or are local to you (details below).
Also, we have a couple of dates for group meetings:
Wed 22 May from 8 pm - join us in the snug of Liberton Inn on Kirkbrae for some green drinks and inspired conversation! Come and tell us what you'd like to see happening in Liberton, Inch and around, and share your ideas and visions.
Thu 30 May 11 am to 12:30 - we're meeting at Liberton Kirk Centre to discuss Rob Hopkins' The Transition Companion, part 3, section on 'Deepening', and generate ideas on how to take South East Edinburgh Transition forward. You're welcome whether or not you've read the book.
Growing projects:
Liberton High School allotments project has taken off - SEE Transition has gratefully taken on a raised bed to grow vegetables and salads, and we're working with the school's Eco Group to help plant and look after the students' beds. Some 2 months later, the veg in our raised bed is sprouting, and the students' beds now feature rhubarb, asparagus, raspberries, strawberries, leeks, onions, and lots more things still in seed. This school term (until the end of June), the allotment group meets on Thursdays, 12:45 to 13:30. All are welcome to join in - just walk up to the school's main entrance, and go around the left wing to its back (via the car park and through a narrow entrance in the wall). Bring gloves and wear suitable clothing - tools are available at the school.
Please email Caro Wilkinson (our Walled Garden group coordinator) if you'd like more detail (caro29again[at]
gmail.com - replace [at] with @ when emailing).
We also now have definite dates for Ferniehill Community Park: Saturdays 11 May, 8 June and 20 July, 10 am to 12. We'll be planting more wildflowers, sweet peas and nasturtiums, as well as tending to our earlier plantings of raspberries, plums etc. Bring gloves and wear suitable clothes; Mike Shields from the City Council will kindly provide plants and tools. If people are willing, we can round the mornings off with a coffee or lunch at a community cafe nearby.
Best wishes,
Nenya on behalf of SEE Transition
