to Alky Project Announcements
It's been a couple of months now since we hit the scene with our
initial alpha release for Intel Macs, and I am now proud to announce
the alpha release for Linux. You may experience random crashing, and
if you happen to be handy with a debugger, please send us the
backtrace. Also, shaders aren't currently supported. We saw strange
issues that inhibited running the demo properly and decided it best
simply to remove the support for now.

Currently, only the Prey demo is supported. Other games may convert
with limited success. We have packaged a script with Alky that will
automatically convert the Prey demo without the need for a windows
install of any kind. Ironically, it uses Wine. For the conspiracy
theorists out there who think we're another CherryOS, no, the game
does not run under Wine. For now, it runs better under Wine, so what
would be the point in our faking it? This release is simply meant as
a proof of concept on both platforms, nothing more.

As for a general update on our plans, we have shifted focus toward
converting World of Warcraft for Linux. It should be a reasonably
quick win before the big move onto DirectX implementation. The plan
is to move on to Oblivion after that, but depending on how long World
of Warcraft takes to finish, it may be too old to justify and we may
be forced to pick a new title.

That's about all I have for now; I hope the Linux users on this list
will take this announcement as an opportunity to come join our sapling
program and try things out:

If $50 is out of your price range, you can also catch us at the
upcoming GDC summit in San Francisco on March 9-10th. We'll most
likely be handing out free demos there.

Until next time,
