Like I've heard about Smith's Station (about halfway between here and Auburn
Alabama and notable for being the hometowns of both Conway Twitty, who
attended high school there, and George Sulzbach, the best artist you never
heard of), since the understanding is /everyone/ has a gun, everyone has a
bit of thought before they decide to draw one.

Speaking of Auburn, Alabama and the earlier discussion of newsgroups /for/
Alabama, I checked, and was pleased to see there's actually a newsgroup
specifically for Auburn (college football, but *everything* ties in with
football in some way out there):

http://groups.google.com/group/alabama.sports.auburn/topics?hl=en

Description: Auburn University sports.

A cool find, and a newsgroup in dire need of revival. Founded in 1996, it
was once a pretty lively place to post, apparently:

Auburn being only about 20-30 miles from where I sit, I'm thinking of taking
it on as a "home group", perhaps starting with this post.

Another hopeless cause I believed in a decade or so ago was to see a day
when Auburn and Alabama fans could live together in peace. at least they do
come together to bash the Athens folks.

BTW, there's an equally /ailing/ mewsgroup for the Roll Tide lovers, as
well:

Myself, I've had to endure enough spats between Alabama (Sulzbach, Vickie
Soho, et al) and Auburn (Dark Queen, Dave Soho et al) to last me a couple of
lifetimes...
