Ken Kerr

Ken Kerr moved to Frederick in 1976. He was born in Natick Massachusetts but grew up in Baltimore. He met his wife, Helen, of 25 years, when the two were students at Frederick Community College. Careers took them and their two daughters across the State of Maryland during the 1990s: to Baltimore, Elkton, Havre de Grace, and Salisbury, before returning to  Frederick in 1999--to stay.

Ken is an English professor at Frederick Community College where he is also the advisor for the College Democrats. Ken and his students have hosted several excellent candidate forums over the past few elections.  He is also the adviser for the Phi Theta Kappa International Honors Society and a 2008 Faculty Scholar for the society.

After graduating from FCC in 1978, he earned a bachelor's degree in music from Hood College where he was recently inducted into their chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi honors society. After completing a Masters of Professional Writing degree from Towson University in 1995, he left a career in high-tech and began a career as an English  professor. He went on to earn a doctorate in leadership from Morgan State University in 2003.

Ken became interested in politics in 1964, at the age of 7, when his neighbor organized the kids on the street to canvas for LBJ. His older sister took him to DC to work on the McGovern campaign in 1972 when he was 15. Since then, he has been able to get himself to campaigns and has been active in Democratic politics ever since.

Ken Kerr's column appears every Monday on www.AiritoutwithGeorge.com.
