Ann-Marie Luciano
Ann-Marie moved to the Frederick area (Monrovia) in May 2005 with her husband and three dogs. Before that, she lived for a little over a year in Silver Spring, MD. Ann-Marie grew up in Rochester, New York and then attended Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1998. While at Allegheny, Ann-Marie had a wide variety of political internship experiences, including internships with Congresswoman Louise Slaughter, Congressman John LaFalce, and with Vice President Gore as a White House Intern. After Allegheny, Ann-Marie attended Cornell Law School and obtained her J.D. in 2001. While at Cornell Law Ann-Marie was extensively involved with the Cornell Death Penalty clinic and capital defense matters in general. She worked as an intern for the Monroe County Capital Defender's Office and was a legal intern for Vice President Gore in the Office of Counsel to the Vice President.
After graduating from law school, Ann-Marie spent three years in Rochester, New York practicing as a litigation attorney at Nixon Peabody LLP. During this time Ann-Marie was an active participant in Rochester Democratic politics, including serving as the Campaign Manager for the Honorable Patricia D. Marks' campaign for County Court and the Events Coordinator for Julie Gordon's campaign for Family Court.
Currently, Ann-Marie is an attorney at Dickstein Shapiro LLP in Washington, DC. Ann-Marie has been honored for her legal service, receiving the 2004 Women's Bar Association of the State of New York Doris S. Hoffman Outstanding New Lawyer of the Year award, the 2004 Daily Record Up & Coming Attorneys award, and the 2006 William E. McKnight Volunteer Service Award from the Volunteer Services Project.
Ann-Marie has enjoyed becoming involved with local Maryland politics, having served as the Frederick County Coordinator for Doug Gansler's campaign for Attorney General and volunteering with the Barack Obama campaign. Ann-Marie is the female delegate candidate from the 6th Congressional District for Barack Obama.
Ann-Marie's column appears the second and fourth Fridays of the month. The opinions expressed in the column are Ann-Marie's only, and are not the opinions of Dickstein Shapiro or the Barack Obama campaign.
