Holiday Observance

v     Happy Holidays!  Most county facilities will be closed on December 24, 25, and January 1, in observance of Christmas & New Year.  Have a fun and safe holiday!

Garbage Collection

v     Holiday Schedule ~ No garbage or recycling collection in unincorporated Orange County on the following holidays:

Christmas Day, Friday, December 25: If Friday is your garbage collection day, garbage will be collected on the following Tuesday.  If Friday is your recycling collection day, recycling will be collected the following Friday. 

New Year’s Day, Friday, January 1:  If Friday is your garbage collection day, garbage will be collected on the following Tuesday.  Recycling service will be available on New Year’s Day if that is your regularly scheduled collection day.

Christmas Tree Collection:  We encourage recycling your Christmas tree.  Place it curbside on your regularly scheduled yard waste collection day.  Remove all ornaments, decorations, nails, and tree stands prior to placing your tree curbside.  If tree is over six feet tall, cut in half.

Help for Victims of Crime!

v     Victim Service Center of Orange County, Inc. (VSC): The VSC is a non-profit organization that provides comprehensive, compassionate, victim-focused services to meet the needs of all victims of crime, including sexual violence survivors who reside in or were victimized in Orange County , Florida . The VSC has 6 Victim Advocates on staff to provide personal advocacy, crisis intervention, safety planning, information and referral services, assistance with victim compensation and criminal justice advocacy to all victims of crime. v     Tow to go Through a partnership with Budweiser, AAA Auto Club South provides the Tow to Go program. This program offers intoxicated motorists a free tow, taking both the driver and the vehicle safely home. Anyone who needs this service can call 1-800-AAA-HELP (which is also their 24-hour emergency road service number.)  The caller does not have to be AAA member and there is NO CHARGE for the tow.  This service is currently provided and will run through and including 1/2/10.  Use the link to their website to find out more information about other holidays that this services is available. v     Garage Sales Permit: Garage, yard, shed or other type sales are allowed in residential zoning districts with the proper Zoning permits. Sales are limited to 2 per year and are enforced by the Code Enforcement Division.

v     Tree Adoption Program: Orange County Cooperative Extension hosts tree adoptions, free to all Orange County citizens. v     Hiawassee Branch Grand Operning

January 9, 10 am, Orlando Public Library, Hiawassee Branch, invites you to celebrate the opening of its new digs on Saturday, January 9 at 10 a.m.  The library, now located at 7391 West Colonial Dr. , Orlando , Fla. 32818 , will be host to a ceremony featuring food, live music and other activities.  First, Central Florida based jazz group the Jarritt Sheel BLU-TRIO will play a barrage of classic tunes.  Then, Commissioner Tiffany Moore-Russell will commemorate the occasion and light refreshments will be provided by Subway.  You may view pictures of the new location at:

What does Orange County 3-1-1 do?

Orange County 311 staffs the call center with courteous specialists to answer questions, coordinate complaints, handle designated requests for services and solves problems related to Orange County Government.
