LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
HB 5003 - BUDGET LINE ITEM 512 APPROVED!!
NITROGEN REDUCTION STRATEGIES STUDY
WILL MOVE FORWARD !!

Thanks to all who e-mailed and called Governor Rick Scott.  The funding approved by the legislature has also been approved by the Governor!  I have gotten a few e-mails indicating some confusion as to whether the study funding had been approved.  The very formal and somewhat confusing information forwarded to you (and me) from the Governor’s office is a little difficult to wade through, but the good news is - now you know they are really paying attention to your e-mails!  The other good news, the legislature also prohibited any rule making in the Wekiva Study Area until  the study is completed!!  We have had many good allies in this effort.  More information on that can be found on www.thesludgereport.org .

I checked again this morning to see if HB1263 had been signed.  This is the bill that repeals 2010’s SB550 which mandated state-wide inspections and replaces the mandate with the bill we supported - voluntary, locally-controlled ordinances with tight homeowner protections and no rule-making.  It has not yet been signed.  The Governor has about another week to do so.  Will keep you posted.

THANKS TO ALL! You are such troopers!
Andrea
