Please let everyone know that Dave and Leslie Guzman on Windy Acres were robbed last night, Sunday,  between 6:30 pm and 8:20 pm.  They stole quite a bit, including jewelry and computers, and they may have used a suitcase to carry things off. 

It looks like the thief came in through one of the bedroom windows and went out the front door, leaving it open.  The police were called and came out to file a report. 

If you see anything suspicious, please call the Orange County Sheriff's office:

Are we working with the Sheriff’s office to get some visible presence / drive-by here in the community? 

 

There seem to have been a lot of incidents in the past few months.  Off the top of my head, I remember theft of an ATV from Davenport west of Avalon, the break-in of the storage unit on the Korean Church property,  a break-in to an outbuilding on Sandhill Road, the very recent break in on Davenport east of the Korean Church, and now this incident with the Guzmans.

 

At a minimum I think we should bring the frequency of events to the attention of the department, request a list of reported break-ins and thefts occurring in the Rural Community during the last 12-18 months, and request some visible patrolling by deputies as part of their routine.

 

If this is something that we, as a community wish to do, and the agenda of the upcoming AHPOA Meeting isn’t final we can discuss this at the meeting.   I would be willing to make first contact with the regional sheriff’s dept representative or the Public Affairs Officer, whichever is the appropriate point of contact.  If any of our membership is affiliated with the sheriff’s office, I would certainly welcome hearing your point of view on this.

I think that is an excellent idea, Art.  The number of incidents does seem to be rising - and it is alarming.  I would like to see more police presence, too - for protection from break-ins and for catching speeders in the area.

Our agenda for the meeting is pretty full, but there is "other business" time that we can use to bring up this topic.  We'll have to keep an eye on the clock for all of our presenters.

It would be great if you could pursue the items you mentioned.  Maybe we can find a pattern in where and when the robberies occurred.  

Whatever info you have at the meeting, please share and additional info can be sent out via e-mail/newsletter.
