Could we laser-cut some pieces to reduce the time required? I'm happy to help with that. Was thinking that these could help raise funds for AHA. Wasn't thinking of making one for me.

Definitely.
Either slic3r (for 3D printers but works for thick slices in image format mode) or Cut3D (installed on cnc machine) could take a 3D model and make slices you could run on the laser.
No time to personally help with this but a few people at AHA know the software and could possibly help.
