Hey all!
So Karen Corbeill (you may know her as Steamy Steve) called me the other night with a wonderful proposal.
i3, as you may know, are having their Halloween party tonight. She suggested that we run some sort of fundraiser tonight, if we so choose, as there will be a place rife with potential donations from people who are totally into the hacker community, and really want to help it. She also suggested we consider classes to teach - apparently there is a dearth of classes being taught there, but not for lack of wanting to learn - so there's a gap we can fill.
In terms of ideas, I was thinking
1. Bring the giant foam swords, and take dollar donations for people to fight (safely). We could have someone emceeing it Street-Fighter-style to have some fun and lend legitimacy to it.
2. Bring, if people want, some of the creations of the groups that run out of the space. Bring Mindstorms to wander around and collect donations, or bring some of the Backyard Brains stuff. I'm sure people would love it, but of course it's up to the respective groups, and I'm not sure how much those groups want to be associated that much with us and fundraising.
Either way, think about it! Got any ideas? Giant fish tank and have people battle it out on underwater scooters wearing costumes? Something more practical? Give us some ideas!
Good idea, Ox. I'd still like to bring the foam swords, I think. Any objections?
Also, who's going and what time?
Possibly! Sorry, who's this?
I'm going as soon as possible. Looking for people to drive over since my hypothetical carpoolees left already. Anyone need a ride?
