Hey all!

One of my first acts as the "Transistor Bishop" will be to reinstate a
regular schedule of Purgatory-ing.

For those unfamiliar, Purgatory is the collection of "junk", "stuff",
and "things" that tend to get collected at AHA. Because we have such a
limited space, it's essential that we get rid of items that won't ever
be used.

So how does Purgatory work?

Once a month, I'll send out an email announcing a new Purgatory
Period. You (members and other interested parties) will have one week
to either:

a) Take your item from Purgatory home with you
b) Explain why your item is useful and should remain at AHA
c) Default and let your item be Purgatory'd

At the end of the Purgatory Period, all unclaimed items will be up for
grabs until they are disposed of properly.

I realize that this system is far from perfect, but I feel that it's
much better than just letting junk accumulate at AHA. Please feel free
to reply with any ideas/criticisms/concerns/etc.

Yours truly,
Kloiber

Certainly! It was actually donated my me, so feel free to pick it up next time you're in the neighborhood. It's leaning up against the purgatory shelf in the back.

Does the HP 680M Strip Chart Recorder have any paper left in it?

Yes! I'm not sure how much, but there's some sticking out of it.

There's also some larger format strip chart paper in the craft area. I think 6 or 7 rolls worth.

If it doesn't get claimed, may I please take the XBox? Even if it doesn't work, I can cannibalize parts out of it to fix my broken one.
Thanks,

I believe Jacob wanted the controller ports from it, so you will have to talk to him about sharing it.

Does the stepper motor work? Can I get it, also for this weekend, I want to get an arduino moving one for work.

I'm not sure about the stepper motor. You can try it out this weekend, but don't take it from AHA until after the 17th.

I want some of the drill motors and batteries, so I'll try to free them from their injection molded trap next time I am in.

I believe that Neonate wanted the bike to build a stationary exercise machine.

Where did we even get a crystal oven to begin with?

Also, I am in favor of putting the magnetic stirrer over with our coffee supplies, getting some stir bars, and using it to make deliciously well-blended things.

The crystal oven isn't exactly what it sounds like - it's an ultra-precise temperature controlled chamber for a crystal oscillator. It was from an old frequency counter.

There are 2 stir bars with the magnetic stirrer! They're only a few months old, so if you washed them, they'd be good to use. That was another thing donated by me, so feel free to go ahead and put it to use.

Good call on the magnetic stirrer.  Depending on what chemicals the stir bars have been in previously, they might not be food-safe... just a word of caution (but new ones are cheap).

Xander, let me know if you want help taking out the drill motors.  Could they be motors for next year's power wheels?

I purchased the stirrers and have used them for only non-toxic applications.

The drill motors are for many things. Even before next year's races, I'd like to build some sort of drill-powered vehicle to test out the tank drive dual-throttle system I have in mind. Having the drill motors and battery packs would be ideal. Jenn, let's plan on destructing them Monday night.

Hey hey hey!

Don't forget to get your Purgatory'd items by tomorrow (12/17)!!!

At 2:00pm tomorrow, unclaimed items will be up for grabs and processed for recycling. Feel free to come down to the space to help out/take stuff apart/whatever tickles your fancy.

Respectfully,
Kloiber

I'm setting aside the claimed Purgatory items on the Botnoise couches.

Having forgotten my car today, I'll be consolidating the unclaimed Purgatory items in a pile on the back table. Feel free to root through it at your convenience.

Sincerely,
Kloiber

Additionally, if you claimed something, PLEASE TAKE IT HOME (or put it in your locker). Claimed items left in Purgatory will almost definitely be purged.

Salutations,
Kloiber
