Fused Medium: Visual Art Competition for Emerging Artists

SNC2 Ink is launching Fused Medium: A Visual Art Competition for Emerging Artists to select 10-15 works as the visual content for an upcoming book project to be realeased Spring 2011. Calling for submissions- Digital Media, Photography, Mixed Media, Special Effects Graphic Design, other. The competition runs from November 15, 1010 to December 29, 2010 with winners announced im early January 2011. In addition to having his/her artwork selected for publication, the winning artist will also receive a cash prize of $500, and an opprtunity to showcase the winning artwork as well as previous collections in a private exhibition sponsored by SNC2 Ink in collaboration with Onixlink.com. The contest is open to US citizens only. Applicant at least 21 years of age or older, may submit works of art in any visual medium tha texpresses and/or relates to fusing food with the sensual side of the human body. CALL FOR FUNERAL DIRECTORS--The Five Funerals Project

Five funerals will take place in Spring 2011 at The Charnel House, a former funeral home in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood. Each of the five Sundays in May will be dedicated to the contemplation of one notional death and a celebration of its notable life.

The community will gather to reminisce and tell stories of an honored cultural idea that has passed away without the fanfare it deserved. The Alliance of Pentaphilic Curators (J. Dunda and T. McClelland) will set the stage for five different Chicago writers or artists to host as the funeral Celebrant each week. Each selected master of ceremonies (Celebrant) will be responsible for setting the broad theme of each funeral and will be charged with the task to invite other cultural producers to participate and enhance the occasion with specific mourning actions and events. Celebrants will be chosen based upon proposals that detail their intended decedent and how they hope to honor him/her/it.
Possible themes could include but are not limited to:
-things we just discovered never really existed (the Brontosaurus, retirement funds, diseases for which we received a wrong diagnosis)
-places and things that make Chicago 'not what it used to be' now that they’re gone (Field’s, the Ferris Wheel restaurant, the "Sears Tower", city controlled parking meters)
-things that seemed very important at the time (Y2K, relationships, online purchases, white teeth)
Each funeral reception to be artistically catered by Bleeding Heart Bakery. These Sunday events will be free and open to the public. Friends and family will enjoy a unique and appropriate epicurean tribute to each of the departed. Recipe books with the 5 different funeral delicacies and the written tribute to each of the special honorees will also commemorate the event.

Ten years of ANTI: it’s time to REMAKE, REBUILD, RENEW!
This is an open call to artists to propose a site-specific project for the 2011 ANTI Festival. We ask you to respond to the following theme:
REMAKE, REBUILD, RENEW
With economic, ecological and social change underway across the world, due impart to the financial crisis, we are challenged by the impact this process my have on our daily lives. Of course there has perhaps not been a time when this has not been the case but today that process could be seen to be accelerating. Governments and councils are involved in a dramatic remaking of financial and political structures – something soon to be felt in Kuopio. Around us environments are rapidly changing, be that by the rebuilding of urban environments (Kuopio’s market square is a case in point) or by our use of the world’s natural resources. In response we are asked to change, to re-imagine our everyday lives. Whether our response is positive, negative or neither it is a process that might well define our age.
For ten years ANTI has re-imagined the public and private spaces of Kuopio. Festival projects have reconfigured the everyday places of the city, asking us to rethink them, re-imagine and re-approach our relationship to the world around us. It’s that process that we’ll concentrate on for this 10th edition of the festival. Possible points of departure for your project might be:
How do you rebuild and remake in your creative practice?
What does it mean to re-imagine a previously made project?
What does it mean to revisit and re-imagine a known space?
How is change celebrated?
How is changed resisted?
How does the city effectively renew itself and what role might creative activity play in this?
All projects at ANTI are shown in the public space, and all have an integral relationship to space in which they occur. All forms of work are welcome.
The closing date for proposals to reach us is December 31st 2010.

The International Drawing Annual is an extension of Manifest's Drawing Center activities. Its goal is to support the recognition, documentation, and publication of excellent, current, and relevant works of drawing from around the world.
A natural question will be "what is drawing?" and that is exactly the question the Annual is meant to investigate from year to year. Furthermore the goal is to ask "what is exceptional drawing?" Therefore submissions are expected to vary, including a range of drawing types, from the most academic to the most experimental, but all with some relevance to the artists' honest understanding of the practice of "drawing."

There are many different ways to approach art on scrolls and we ask artists to push those limits - linear storytelling to abstract ideas. Larger format works are shown on our huge "Scrollie Viewer" but we also appreciate smaller format or long scrolls that hang on the wall. Solo, group collaborations, video or performance pieces are acceptable. Artists in any location are welcome to submit. Ten years of ANTI: it’s time to REMAKE, REBUILD, RENEW! This is an open call to artists to propose a site-specific project for the 2011 ANTI Festival. We ask you to respond to the following theme: REMAKE, REBUILD, RENEW With economic, ecological and social change underway across the world, due impart to the financial crisis, we are challenged by the impact this process my have on our daily lives. Of course there has perhaps not been a time when this has not been the case but today that process could be seen to be accelerating. Governments and councils are involved in a dramatic remaking of financial and political structures – something soon to be felt in Kuopio. Around us environments are rapidly changing, be that by the rebuilding of urban environments (Kuopio’s market square is a case in point) or by our use of the world’s natural resources. In response we are asked to change, to re-imagine our everyday lives. Whether our response is positive, negative or neither it is a process that might well define our age. For ten years ANTI has re-imagined the public and private spaces of Kuopio. Festival projects have reconfigured the everyday places of the city, asking us to rethink them, re-imagine and re-approach our relationship to the world around us. It’s that process that we’ll concentrate on for this 10th edition of the festival. Possible points of departure for your project might be: How do you rebuild and remake in your creative practice? What does it mean to re-imagine a previously made project? What does it mean to revisit and re-imagine a known space? How is change celebrated? How is changed resisted? How does the city effectively renew itself and what role might creative activity play in this?
