Call for Entry: "Facades"- regional juried show, cash prizes Deadline: 1/3/2011 Exhibition Dates:April 5th-28th, 2011 A facade in its simplest term is something that covers or obscures something else— the facade of a building, a person putting on a “false face”, a facade. When it applies to architecture it can be a good thing, covering something plain or unsightly. When appliedto a person putting on a facade, can have a negative connotation. Facades can be all about the juxtaposition, about concealing and revealing… about looking beyond the surface for something deeper. Artwork in all media may not exceed 42” horizontally, frame included. Please include an artist statement and a $40 entry fee. Open to all Artists 18 or older, living in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Iowa or Wisconsin. 10th Annual International Photography Competition The Fraser Gallery in Bethesda, Maryland is accepting submissions for an international photography competition to be held February 11 - March 5, 2011. $950 in awards. Juror: Catriona Fraser, Owner/Director. Open to all photographers 18 years and older. All photography not previously exhibited at the Fraser Gallery. Human + Being: Juried Photography Exhibition International Deadline: January 4, 2011 - The Center for Fine Art Photography announces it's upcoming exhibition, 'Human + Being'. Open to all photographers world wide, both amateur and professional. The Center invites photographers working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought to participate in its exhibitions. THEME Being human is complicated. Human + Being is an equally complex equation, the sum of these parts a richly textured experience unique to the individual but shared universally. Triumphant, tragic, absurd and the quiet significance in between, our stories unfold without cease. Explore the emotions and actions that define being human. JUROR For over twenty five years Phil Borges has lived with and documented indigenous and tribal cultures around the world. Through his work, he strives to create a heightened understanding of the issues faced by people in the developing world. Phil has hosted three television documentaries for Discovery and National Geographic as a part of a series that investigates indigenous cultures that still maintain a spiritual dialogue with the natural world. Phil’s photographs are collected and exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide. His award-winning books have been published in four languages and in 1998 he was presented the Photo Media Magazine “Photoperson of the Year” award. In December, 2003 Phil was honored with the Humanitarian Award, receiving the Lucie at the 1st Annual International Photography Awards. In 2005 he was named a Giraffe Hero for his humanitarian work. Phil teaches and lectures internationally and is co-founder of Blue Earth Alliance, a 501c3 that sponsors photographic projects focusing on endangered cultures and threatened environments. AWARDS With selection for this exhibition, featured artist’s work will be seen by an international audience of collectors, curators, art consultants and other advocates of fine art photography. Each participant will be included in the Center’s Main Gallery exhibition and Online Gallery exhibition. Spring 2011 Residency Call Type: Residencies, Workshops, Exchanges Eligibility: Chicago The deadline to apply for the position of Spudnik Press' Spring 2011 Resident Artist is quickly approaching. So we encourage you to grab a mug of hot cocoa and flush out exactly how you would spend 3 months in a print shop.The residency com es with a stipend for materials, 24-hour access to the shop, light support from all of us who use the studio, and assistance coordinating an exhibition of your work when it's all over.Applicants are expected to have printmaking experience and feel comfortable in the medium they applying to work in. This residency is supported by previous Resident Artists through the sale of their artwork. To this end, at the conclusion of the residency, artwork is divided approximately 50/50 between the artist and Spudnik Press. The artist retains all proofs and unfinished prints.
