The 7th International Fisheries Observer and Monitoring Conference (7th IFOMC), is organized by the Instituto de Fomento Pesquero (Institute for Fisheries Development, IFOP), to be held on April 2013 in the city of Viña del Mar, Chile. This event has attracted in the past an average of 400 attendees from 40 countries. Please visit our web site, www.IFOMC.com.
Fisheries observer programs are essential in the collection of quality biological and fisheries data to generate a solid knowledge basis to enable states to undertake conservation management and sustainable development of fisheries.
In 1998, the National Marine Fisheries Service of the U.S. and the Departpment of Fisheries and Oceans of Canada organized the first IFOMC in Seattle, Washington, USA. Since that time the Conference has served as a broad forum, which brings together the principal fishing countries to exchange knowledge and experiences of researchers, practitioners and policy makers. The scope and influence of the IFOMC has expanded considerably over the years.
