Gulf and South Atlantic Fisheries Foundation, Inc. This
is an independent contractor position that requires working onboard
commercial fishing vessels collecting scientific data for long-term
fisheries research projects. Departures could be from any port on the U.S.
Gulf of Mexico (most likely) or South Atlantic. Working conditions: (1) Must
live onboard commercial fishing vessels while working; (2) under most
circumstances, must be able to tolerate long trips at sea, sometimes up to
45 days; (3) extensive travel to reach ports of departure.
Should have a Bachelor's degree in fisheries biology or
closely related field from an accredited college (exceptions can be made);
(2) or have completed a training course conducted or approved by the
Director of the NMFS Southeast Fisheries Science Center; (3) Must not have a
current or prior financial relationship with entities seeking research; (4)
English/Spanish speaking bilingual individuals would be preferred (not
required); (5) Must have dependable transportation; (6) Must maintain a home
or cellular telephone; (7) Preference given to candidates that have lodging
in the Gulf of Mexico region.
$200/day when at sea, $80/day on shore,
while on official duty, plus expenses
