Ebonyi recorded 135 accidents in 6 months

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), in Ebonyi State, has declared that a total of 135 road accidents occurred in the state, in the last six months, resulting in the death of 26 persons.
Accordingly, 61 per cent of the accidents in the period under review involved motorcycles popularly called okada. The State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Commander Emmanuel O. Abe, made the disclosure in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, on Monday while briefing newsmen on the programme/activities of the commission geared towards stemming the ugly incident of road traffic accidents in the state.
The FRSC boss, stated that the commission has adopted the Driving Schools Standardisation Programme (DSSP), to ensure that all intending drivers passed through such driving schools, before being issued a driver's licence.
He said that the commission was worried by the upsurge in accidents caused by motorcycle operators stressing that comprehensive strategy on public enlightenment and meetings with officials of okada riders association, had commenced in full swing.
