Greetings,

I recently spent 3 weeks in Japan, and as I didn't have data roaming
enabled on my phone (HTC Wildfire), I used AEdict as my on-the-spot
dictionary app. Also had a Canon Wordtank, but I found AEdict
generally
more useful and easier to use. I think it's a great app, and I hope it
can be
enhanced and maintained. Well done.

I sent Martin a few comments and suggestions, which he has put on the
to-do list. I'll repeat them here as they may be of interest.

- the dictionary needs regular updating. I noticed when I
looked up もろみ that the translation still has a spelling error that
was
fixed several months ago.

- I kept having to press on More and selecting "Starts With" when
doing
kana searches. I think "Starts With" should be the default. Or better
still,
the user's preferred default could be set via Settings.

- can the romaji conversion be expanded to include kunreishiki? I
usually type
"tu" and "si" rather than "tsu" and "shi" (fewer keystrokes). In
WWWJDIC, etc.
these are just extra entries in a table.

- AEdict should really be using the "EDICT2" version rather than the
clunky
old legacy EDICT format. I kept getting multiple versions of the same
entry. About 15% of entries have alternative kanji or kana forms, and
it is far
better to display them just once rather than in all the combinations.

Cheers

Jim Breen

Dear Jim,
first of all, thank you very much for your great work on the edict dictionary, without which aedict (and lots of other apps) simply couldn't exist. Thanks again. :)
I am happy to tell you that all items mentioned in your mail have been addressed in aedict 3 which will be available next week. I must find a way to give you a3 for free as a thank for the dictionary.
Thanks again and have a nice day,
Martin
