Hi!  I am a mom of three children, one of whom has Acrodermatitis
Enteropathica, also known as Brandt Syndrome, Danbolt-Cross Syndrome
or Congenital Zinc Deficiency.  To learn more, here is a link to a
wikipedia article on the subject:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acrodermatitis_enteropathica

I started this group several years ago as an information portal for myself, and others with the disorder, to
share info and discuss research, common frustrations, etc.

Our story in a nutshell:  Our daughter was diagnosed at the age of
four (in 2006).  She was exclusively breast fed for the first two years of life,
and so didn't exhibit much in the way of symptoms during that time, but
did tend to be a very 'rashy' baby with lots of digestive difficulty;
diarrhea, reflux, vomiting, etc.  After weaning, the rashes worsened
and persisted for two years during which time we sought the expertise
of her family doctor (who prescribed Vaseline type ointments and
antifungals and said it'll go away in time), allergists (who
prescribed much of the same along with some eczema creams), and finally
a dermatologist who actually had the sense to draw some blood.
During those two years we dealt with a lot of other issues that were
not skin related such as diarrhea, mild hallucinations, neurological
problems, anxiety, depression, constant prolonged viral illnesses, and
more.  My daughter continues to grow and thrive.  She is taking 3mg zinc/kg body weight (in the form of Zinc
Gluconate) divided into two daily doses, and is doing well.

Please post your story, a quick intro, or anything else you think
would pertain.  We hope to hear from you.
