Over the last 24 hours we've been getting the error message:

An unexpected authentication problem occurred. Please try it again
later

The error is intermitent - it has occured 3 times when checking the
status of a report through the web services and twice when sending
keywords using the "updateCriteria" method. Upon re trying then these
calls work fine without a change to the code.

We are using version 11 of the web services API through a .Net
application. This code has been in place for about 3 months now with
no problems at all, so I'm assuming this is an issue at the Google
end?

Can anyone explain what is going on?

Thanks for reporting this--I've escalated this to the engineering
team to see if there might have been a transient issue with our
authentication process and to make sure that this isn't part of a
larger problem. I'll let you know what I hear back.

Hello,

As of a few days ago, this should no longer be occurring. It was due
to an infrastructure issue on our end that affected a small subset of
incoming requests. If anyone does run into this error again, please
let us know.

Thanks for letting us know--the engineering team is investigating at
the moment.

In the meantime, if you're getting this error for each request you're
making, I'd recommend waiting a five minutes or so between a failed
request and the next request you make. This pause will increase the
chances that our load balancers' stickiness will time out and that
your subsequent requests will be routed to a different internal
server.
