The First Church Book Group: April 25th – Cranford, by Elizabeth Gaskell

First Church Book Group meets every month of the year (usually on the
4th Wednesday.) We carefully choose a variety of fiction and non-fiction
that appeal to a range of readers. New members, both men and women,
are always warmly welcomed. Unless otherwise noted, the group meets
from 7:30-9pm in the Church Library.
Thursday
Da Vinci’s Ghost: The Untold Story of the World’s Most Famous Drawing – Thurs., April 26, 7:30pm, Parish Hall
Join
Toby Lester to hear about his new book, which tells the story of the
famous ‘Vitruvian Man” and the ancient ideas that influenced this
timeless drawing.
It’s a fun and surprising tale that ropes together an eclectic cast of
characters: ancient Greek sculptors and philosophers; the Roman
architect Vitruvius and the emperor Caesar Augustus; early European
monks and Muslim astrologers; Hildegard of Bingen and other mystics;
medieval cathedral builders; Renaissance anatomists, architects, art
theorists, doctors, engineers, and painters —and in the starring role,
of course, Leonardo himself.
