Want to improve your ad performance? We want to help you.
Over the coming weeks, we will to share our optimisation tips with
you, and hope you will let us all know what you find works best on
your site.
This week, how about trying to implement a 300x250 medium rectangle
above the fold, and opting-in to both text and image ads?
The medium rectangle is one of our best performing ad units. See how
it can perform for you, and share your thoughts with us here on this
thread. We look forward to your feedback.
And, if the medium rectangle doesn't suit your site, maybe you will
find next week's tip useful.
The 300x250 image only is the best preforming for me, I have it on
about 200 pages and it out performs all the rest. next best, and this
was a big surprise are the link units, but just because the image only
works well for me does not mean it will work for everbody, it all
depends on your site content.

Saw, you'll find that if you take the time to go through it yourself
you will learn more and be much better at what you do. Asking for step
by step instructions will not do you as good in the longer term

I've done it before, but I am trying again, I'll try the 300x250 with
text and image, see how it works out in a single high traffic area of
my site...for me it seems the text ads have always worked out better
tho, image ads never seem to very well...
Just cuz my daughter is named Ashley as well, I have to trust you and
give it a go.

I'm sure this is a REALLY stupid question, but here goes: you mention
placing the ad above the fold. I know where the fold of my arm is,
but where is the "fold" of my website? Thanks!

I have been using this setup for a while now. Its really good. At the
risk of advert overload I have placed 2 of these squares at the top of
my page.
At first I balked at doing that thinking its too 'in your face' by
having 2 squares, but I compromised by having them removed if someone
becomes a member of the site and logs in. So guests see the adverts,
but members don't. Everyone is happy all round. People can join and be
free from the adverts so I get more members joining.
Hi Ashley,
Does this post now take over from the 'Optimisation Tips' Message
posted to my control panel. It started and ended in April 2007! Hope
your post(s) will have a better 'longevity' factor.
Can confirm that the 300x250 ATF is by far the most profitable unit on
my sites.

I'm using 300x250 medium rectangle on a website, above the content, it
works good,i have other one in the middle of my content but it is not
performing very well. Also, i have a link unit in the top of the left
sidebar, it is the best performer for me.
From my last day or so it looks at least as good as the 336x280 text
only units. I usually wait for a week to judge though in close
statistical calls since each day of the week is a bit different. So
far I am surprised, of course I did a couple placement changes too so
that may have helped.

it's great to hear more about how you find the medium rectangle,
thanks for your feedback. Seems the link unit is a hot favourite too!
I'll come back to link units in the coming weeks.
Data, regarding the Optimisation Report you noticed in your account,
these are tips we send based on automatic reviews of your site. In our
tips here on the forum, we intend to share tips with you, which some
publishers will have already not yet tried, but that others have. So
you can share your findings and tips with each other.
Dan B. - you raise a great point! To monitor the impact of
implementing this (or any) new ad unit, we encourage you to use
channels to track the performance of a new ad format and/or
placement.

Oh, yes, Link Units are vastly under-rated by newbies to
AdSense...they are great in tight places that may otherwise go wasted
and actually perform much better than I ever expected them to...
I got one optimization report in my account and never saw another...
As far as monitoring, people who are not using channels are missing
out on a lot of very useful information, seeing what performs and what
doesn't, changing them and seeing what helped and what didn't.

I have been playing around with different dimensions for some time now
and you are right 300x250 works great.
On my site people can publish images from their websites/blogs and
the publishers are allowed to generate revenue by displaying Ads from
their Google Adsense account.
The publishers have requested to have different formats on their image
page. I would like to know which other formats work best, so that our
publishers can genarate maximum revenue from their images.

I was wondering:
When you use the 300x250 Medium Rectangle on the top of your page, or
in the middle, but above the fold. Do you have the text flow next to
it? Or leave the space next to the adblock blank?
Which would perform better?
Yeah, I have put two 300x250';s one on top of the other, top one image
and text, bottom one text only and my revenue on that channel has
improved, not dramatically, but it improved a little bit over the
366x280 format single stacked that I was using.
