Subject: Adsense Email Asking For Bank Information! Authentic?
I have just now received this message asking for my bank information
to process Adsense payments.

It sure looks weird specially since it was sent to the email address
showing on the WHOIS for that domain and not to my registered Adsense
account.

If this is a scam Google should take immediate action as it's coming
from a Gmail account within Googles own servers.

Please accept my apologies for the forum noise if this is authentic.

Thanks

RGF

Hello,

As you may know from our previous communications, your most
recent AdSense payments have been delayed. Today we're glad to
inform you that we are resuming these payments and they will soon
return to our normal schedule. From now on, your payments will be
sent to you through an international US Dollar wire transfer. To
enable our system to process the wire payments, we need you to
provide us with some banking information. Please follow the steps
below:

1) Make sure you have ALL of the following information ready:

- Name on the bank account - needs to be the same as in your
AdSense account
- AdSense publisher id: To find your unique AdSense publisher ID
number, log into your AdSense account at
http://www.google.com/adsense. On the 'My Account' tab, scroll
down to the 'Property info' section, where you will see your
publisher ID formatted like this: ca-pub-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.
- CPF (for individuals); CNPJ (for corporations)
- Bank name
- Bank address and telephone number
- Bank number
- Branch number
- Account number
- Swift code (please call the Exchange Rate desk of your bank to
ask for this code. This should be an eleven digit code).

We assure you that Google will only use this information to
process your AdSense payments.

2) Review your AdSense account for a fax number that will be
shown on the'Reports Overview'page. This number will begin to
appear between January 31st and February 3rd.

3) Send the information in Step 1 above to that fax number to the
attention of 'Google AdSense Payments'. Please keep this fax
number for your records. Please be patient if it takes some time
to complete the call.

4) When we receive the fax with your banking information, we will
send you an email to confirm this. Please review the information to
be sure that it is complete and correct, or it may prevent the
wire transfer from being processed correctly or on time. Once
you've successfully submitted you bank account information, you
will not need to resend it for future payments.

5) Please provide us this information by the 4th of February so
that we can issue you a payment on or around the 6th of February.
If you miss the February 4th deadline, please submit your complete
bank
information to us on or before February 11th, so that we can
issue you a payment on or around February 13th.

After these 2 weekly payments, we will resume our monthly payment
process (now via wire transfer instead of checks). The next
monthly payment will occur in the last week of February for
unpaid earnings through the end of January.

6) Once we process your wire transfer, we will update your
AdSense account to inform you of this. The wire transfers could
take a few days to reach your bank, so check with your bank to
see if the money has arrived. During this time you may see a
message in your account, 'Payment issue - please contact AdSense
Support.' Please know that this is normal while we process the
payment and there is no need to contact us.

7) Once the money has reached your bank, please know that your
bank may ask you to sign a Foreign Exchange (FX) contract to agree
to the exchange rate used to convert your
dollar payment into Reais. You may need to visit your bank's
Exchange Rate desk to sign this contract. Since policies vary between
banks, some banks might also ask you for some specific
documentation in regards to these wire payments. Please
contact your bank account manager or the Exchange Rate desk to
clarify the process for your bank. Your bank may also charge a
fee for this transfer.

8) We will continue to use this process and wire unpaid earnings,
each month, to the bank account you specify. We do not recommend
changing your bank account information frequently, but if you do
need to change your bank account information, please submit your
new bank information as described in step 3.

For questions, please review the FAQ below. If you still have
concerns, you are welcome to email us [email address]

We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your
patience and understanding,

The Google AdSense Team

December and January?
Yes, this payment will be for the amount we would have paid you
in December and January with the former process.

- Can I still get a check if I prefer that method of payment?
No. Checks are no longer available for payments in Brazil.

- Will this be the only available method of payment from now on?
Yes, for now payment by wire transfer is the only available
payment method.

- When are you offering new forms of payments?
We are working to offer new methods in the near future and we
will inform you when they are available.

It depends on your bank; some banks don't charge any fee, while
others do. We strongly recommend that you check with your bank to
determine if and how much they charge for this procedure.

To protect your privacy and security, we've provided the fax
number in your AdSense account. If you're having trouble logging
into your account, please let us know and we'll be happy to help
you.

- What if I don't agree on the exchange rate the bank proposes?
You're welcome to have your bank transfer the wire to another
bank where you may be able to negotiate a more favorable exchange
rate.

- What is a swift code?
Swift code is a standard format of Bank Identifier Codes approved
by the International Organization for Standardization. It is the
unique identification code of a particular bank.

I am afraid that Google Adsense will not request you to provide any
bank information. You should double check with Google before taking
any action.

That is a clear Scam. Google will never ask you that information,
especialy by email. If someone knows that info he can make an online
payment using your account.
Don't send any information. If you want to update your account do it
in the adsense account, not by email.

I believe all email leaving Adsense support offices leaves on smtp-
out.google.com (216.239.xxx.xxx) or proxy.google.com but don't quote
me on that.

Well spotted though...

To my surprised I've just learned that this is in fact an authentic
email by the Brazilian Google team. It did strike me as odd at first
but after reading it over again I found that the fax number to which
they want me to fax this info will eventually show up in the "Reports"
page of my Adsense account.

I did write to Google (using the support centers form) and got a reply
confirming the source and authenticity of such unusual procedure. It
seems that Brazilian customs has been giving Google a hard time
mailing checks, so this is the way they found to overcome the problem.

I thank you all for the prompt responses and especially the Google
Adsense team for taking the time to answer my questions.
