I've created a new search function (Now the customised search.)
I fill in everything, but when I click on Save, NOTHING happens!!!
I tried to get the code, but I cannot find it anywhere in the AdSence
site.
I searched the help function and it says I can edit search boxed by
selecting them under Manage Ads., but under Manage Ads ONLY the
adverts are displayed - NONE of my search boxes are diaplayed.
Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you.

It sounds like a browser boo-boo, try the following in the order
listed one at a time:
1. Log out and back in.
2. Delete browser cache.
3. Delete Google cookies.
4. Try a different browser.
5. Pray. :-()
Well, Ok, that last one probably won't help but usually one of the
first 4 do. :-()

Nope. does not seem to be the problem.
I normally use Opera.
I've now tried IE (unfortunetely), but when I go to Manage Ads, there
is still NONE of my search boxes listed.
It works for me, we just have to figure out why it doesn't work for
you.
Even if we can't get AdSense for Search working for you, we might get
CSE with AdSense working for you and although it is not integrated as
well into AdSense, it would at least get you the same functionality on
your site until we can figure out what is going on with the AdSense
for Search interface for you.

Ok, sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't.

It is usually not a good idea to go too far off the deep end. ;-)

When you say "nothing", I know this is going to sound like a stupid
question but what does "nothing" mean? A new page doesn't load or one
tries but doesn't complete or you get Javascript errors or what
exactly, can you explain in more detail, if possible?

Ok, so it would seem safe to say that the creation process isn't
getting completed and the newly created search tool isn't getting
added to your account. That's good to know.
...

It was worth a try and usually helps but nothing works 100% of the
time. ;-)

Ok, also a good thing to know.

"unfortunately", damn! You must have been desperate! :-()

Here's something new to try and although it isn't a permanent
solution, it may get you a search box on your site faster than
anything else.
First of all, as you probably know, the "Search" in AdSense for Search
is actually based on the Google Custom Search Engine (CSE).
What you may or may not know though is that one can use CSE by itself
or, add AdSense to one's CSE.
It is sort of like the "back door" into AdSense for Search but at one
time, it was the only way to get the combined functions and features
of both AdSense and the Custom Search Engine.
Other than creating the two "different" types differently and the data
available and integration into your AdSense account/data being
slightly different, from a visitor point of view they are identical as
is your ability to customize and tune the search parameters.
So, what you could try doing it first build yourself a CSE and then
add Adsense to it, through the CSE creation and maintenance interface.
I don't think you will need it though as the CSE interface is pretty
straight forward but if you run into a problem, either ask here or
check out the page I listed and see if that helps.
But, once you do get SOMETHING working, there is still the problem of
why you can't get AdSense for Search to work but it may be that
setting up a CSE with AdSense first might somehow trigger something so
that it will at some point work.
In any event, you are probably most interested in getting anything you
can so we can start with what you can get to work and then move on to
what you should be able to get to work.
Sound like a plan?
In the future though, it is usually best to keep discussions in the
original thread you started because if everyone created new threads
asking for more answers, this place would become almost painful to try
to get or give help in. ;-)
1) I have got three other AdSence Search functions that i created
BEFORE Google had the Customer search function. I created and
implemented them easity.
When I tried to create a new function, on the Custom Search, I started
having the problems.
Let's go though it step by step.
2) When I try and create the new Search function, I go through all the
steps, until the very end, where you msut click on "save" or something
like that.
I click on this button.
It goes grey.
And nothing happens.... not an error message, not a Java error.
Nothing.
I left it over nigh to see if it wakes up after a while, but nothing,
nothing, the page looks exactly the same....
I saved some screen captures on my web site:
You can see it on: http://www.qtime.co.za/temp/Clipboard02.jpg You can see it on: http://www.qtime.co.za/temp/Clipboard03.jpg You can see it on: http://www.qtime.co.za/temp/Clipboard06.jpg
3) When I go the AdSense Setup - Manage Ads, Google displays my
adverts, but NONE of my search boxes (the other three that does work.)
I have uploaded a screen capture to my web site. You can see it on:
http://www.qtime.co.za/temp/Clipboard01.jpg (I blanked out the ID
numbers.)
4) I tried to subvert the system: I used the HTML code from one of the
search functions that DOES work and only inserted the new numbers
(which I obtained from AdSense Setup - Cannels. You can see it on:
http://www.qtime.co.za/temp/Clipboard07.jpg I blanked out the other ID
numbers.).
The original search cose was:
Ok, from what I can tell, everything that needs setting is set so that
can't be the problem.
> 3) When I go the AdSense Setup - Manage Ads, Google displays my

The new interface doesn't support editing the old style AdSense for
Search so they aren't listed in the Manage Ads list.
> 4) I tried to subvert the system:
That won't work, the new code is different than the old code besides,
it is not good to modify the code so although you were only using it
for testing, it would be good if you remove it, if you haven't
already.
> The search is displayed correctly.
It will display as if it were correct but because it is mixing
systems, it won't actually work correctly.
> I much prefer the OLD type of search function to the new type.
> Will it not work the way I'm trying to do it?
Right, it won't work that way. Also, once you do get the new style
working, you'll hopefully like it better than the old way, as I do,
but I actually like the old CSE with AdSense method better because one
didn't need to create and then re-edit. Hopefully that can be changed
though but that doesn't help you.
> I'm concerned if I use the method that you explain, that I will not
> receive the Ad revenue from the search???
It works, that's what I use. I'm still just playing with AdSense for
Search so I still use the CSE with AdSense and everything tracks. You
do have to give access to your account to "coop", or something like
that but that is no big deal.
> My apologies for opening another thread. I'm just sooooo frustrated.
> Google's search funtion used to work so well and easy before the
> "enhancements"..
"New and improved", right? :-() I know the feeling. I'm sure though
that once the problem is figured out, you'll like the functionality of
AdSense for Search on your site better than the older version, the
hard part is getting to that point.
The problem is though, I can't see anything wrong with the settings
you tried to use and you said that doing all the browser hocus pocus
didn't work either so I'm out of ideas.
Maybe one of the Google Employees who read the various posts here may
have an idea, I sure hope so!
Beyond that though, were I you, I'd just set up CSE with AdSense and
be done with it.
One thing about my tutorial though, since I published it, the CSE
interface has changed so the selection of sites to include is a bit
different. But, the difference is that it is MUCH more intuitive to
use now than it was before so if you get to a point where you see one
thing in the tutorial but the CSE interface is different, figuring out
what to do is pretty easy.
Good luck though and I hope whatever the problem is, you can get help
with!
Please post back here if you discover anything interesting.
> How can I actually get one of the Google engineers to have a look at
> the problem.
If you post it here, which you did, AdSense staff will see it.
> Is there anybody at the end of the internet?????????
I'm wondering the same thing. ;-)
I mentioned that it is not good to modify the code once already as it
is a Program Policy violation and I gave you a link to a tutorial of
what is a Google provided, approved and supported method.
If you wait for someone from Google to figure it out, you could be
waiting for quite a while.
Thanks for reporting this issue. We're sorry to hear that you've had
such problems with the CSE.
Our engineers have investigated, and inform me that this is an issue
with Opera. We do not support this browser, and recommend you use IE
or Firefox 2.

I tried both Opera 9.50 and Firefox 3 (RC1). Neither browser did
anything after clicking the Save button, and upon inspecting each
browsers error message console I found the same message! "Invalid JSON
string".
Opera's investigation (issue #235131) in the problems with managing
CSE in December 2006 showed, that when they call
XHR.setRequestHeader('Accept', 'text/json'), Opera will append the
value to the normal Accept header, sending something like this:
Accept: text/json, text/html, application/xml;q=0.9, application/xhtml
+xml, image/png, image/jpeg, image/gif, image/x-xbitmap, */*;q=0.1
Firefox would send just "Accept: text/json".
Opera seems to be correct according to the XHR spec:
