502 Bad gateway errors, connections reset by peer

Seeing a much higher incidence of connection reset by peer & 502 bad gateway errors since October 11th, 2014.

We have reduced the frequency of calls to the API to mitigate the connection resets, however we haven't been able to reduce the incidence of 502's to zero yet.

Best practices advice to mitigate?
