Hi pradeep,it is turning out to be a good platform for every one to share their views, perceptions and the way everyone thinks and I am very glad to be part of this discussion on "essential skills required to be an IT professional".As every one mentioned their opinion in the form of key factors I want to be more specific about the "Stress Management". Like to manage stress 1.Identify the sources of stress. 2.Look how you cope with stress. 3.Avoid unnecessary stress. 4.Alter the situation. 5.Accept the things you can't change. 6.make time for fun and follow healthy lifestyle.

"All things not made for you but all things you can make"*
Yes I agree with vamsi . First we have to analyze the things before coding.Analyzing the requirements before coding requires analytical skills. To be analytical you need to think about all things involved in a situation. Analytical thought is breaking down the pieces of something before reaching a conclusion.
Guys, In order to achieve good position in the industry,
You have a passion, and you'd like to make it your profession. No matter how enthusiastic you are about your profession, though, You won't be successful unless you have a plan for how you're going to start your career and maintain it.

"Forgiving doesn't make the person who hurt you feel better, it makes you feel better"
I am extremely glad to be a part of this discussion I would like to add to the discussion that....
Strong INTER-PERSONAL skills are required to the professionals to flourish in the IT-Sector
The term "interpersonal skills" is used often to refer to the measure of a person's ability to operate within business organizations through social communication and interactions. Interpersonal skills are how people relate to one another.
It is generally understood that communicating respect for other people or professionals within will enable one to reduce conflict and increase participation or assistance in obtaining information or completing tasks.
For instance......to interrupt someone who is currently preoccupied with the task of obtaining information needed immediately, it is recommended that a professional use a deferential approach with language such as,
"Excuse me, are you busy? I have an urgent matter to discuss with you if you have the time at the moment." This allows the receiving professional to make their own judgment regarding the importance of their current task versus entering into a discussion with their colleague.
While it is generally understood that interrupting someone with an "urgent" request will often take priority, allowing the receiver of the message to judge independently the request and agree to further interaction will likely result in a higher quality interaction. Following these kinds of skills to achieve better professional results generally results in a professional being ranked as one with 'good interpersonal skills.'

I would like to add something important to the discussion like
- Accessing organizational learning needs through focusing on what really matters to the company. - Its not just about training for training sake, but rather its about learning for mechanical advantage.

I would like fulfill our discussion on Self-Confidence by adding few more points like below.Besides those few mentioned points i would like to add up like .. Some people inheritly have good levels of self-confidence rather every one can excel in it.But before that one must know what self-confidence mean? and even you can check yourself with these : 1.Being cool, check your emotional levels. 2.Being calm, check how your plan goes on with respect to your mind. 3.Not too mindful of what others think,do you pay any attention to it? 4.Be specific where you want to be more confident, where actually you require Self-Confidence? 5.understand that what you expect is what you want. 6.And don't think of negative aspects of your goal.
check out these aspects and cheer up in your in life.

I too agree for the stuff that you all discussed, i strongly believe technical skills are mandatory in any IT-Industry along with the they need some more skills which will make their career bright
Some of those are
- Good communication: which is very important to express our views in an appropriate way - Working as a team: helps in sharing views regarding a particular aspect to complete it - Continuous learning: one have to know where they are going in life to appropriately invest their time and energy to lean new things - Understanding nature: making complex things simple and easy

I would like to add an other point to our discussion. Before we speak our body language communicates with the audiences. Hence body language plays a vital role.
- Our gestures speak more than what we actually speak - Over expressions should be avoided - Synchronization of our hand movements with what we talk must be take care of - Eye contact with every listener is important - A smile always creates a positive impact

i agree with all of you,and i want to add a few more points as follows 1. Coordination In the context of IT, coordination is a skill set that provides guidance and oversight for the smooth interaction of multiple activities and their positive outcomes. It certainly includes project management, but it's not limited to it. 2. AnalysisThis includes training in critical thinking, analysis tools, presenting quality communications through writing and visualization, and statistics. 3. InnovationInnovation is the creation of better or more effective products, processes, services, technologies, or ideas that are accepted by markets, governments, and Society. Innovation differs from invention in that innovation refers to the use of a new idea or method, whereas invention refers more directly to the creation of the idea or method itself.
Innovation is the most abstract of the three skill areas.

- *Learn to Manage Stress*
One of the critical skill, which we need to learn, is stress management. As we move on, we will get more work related pressure to survive in it we need to learn.

Dear prashranth, As you mentioned the importance of strong inter personal skills primarily it is characterised into three categories Leadership,Networking and Teamwork .
1.Leadership: The process of successfully influencing the activities of a group towards the achievement of a common goal. A leader has the ability to influence others through qualities such as personal charisma, expertise, command of language, and the creation of mutual respect
2.Networking: The ability to actively seek, identify and create effective contacts with others, and to maintain those contacts for mutual benefit.
3.Teamwork: Involves working with others in a group towards a common goal. This requires cooperating with others, being responsive to others' ideas, taking a collaborative approach to learning, and taking a responsibility for developing and achieving group goals.
Besides their are even some other factors like collaboration, decision making, mentoring and motivating others.Hope every one finds it good to follow.

I agree with you dear friend Azam as you mentioned key one in the discussion on what everybody is talking about. Yeah managing stress is key crucial one to be take care of while we are in the IT industry. Stress will be more on the people in IT industry when compared to other sectors. Now a days IT companies are mostly focusing on the stress relief programs so that their employees would be more efficient in problem solving, analyse the things properly. It is good to see everyone going deeper into the discussion let us see up to where it goes.

I totally agree with you Srinivas and Azam, One should never forget that we are just Freshers. So having false attitude and trying to over do things, can play a key role in getting yourself kicked out of an Industry. We must remain calm take everything in a cool manner. And what you buddies have quoted about Stress Management is perfect. But we need to be smart enough to analyze the situation and act accordingly. If we compromise for everything its going to hurt our Self-Respect. What i want to quote is, never feel guilty when you haven't done wrong.

Yes azam, What you said is correct, one should Ready to face the challenges in Software field because its not like other fields simply sitting in chair and do the routine work, as a programmer or any other employee in software fields should keep learning the new Technologies and need to think logics for developing the new projects.
It's very good to see my friend Azam is coming up with some interesting facts that we have today.Really Stress management has become an important factor today in the sector of IT.
In the olden days,IT is like coming to office work till the evening sitting in the same position from morning to evening, but today there is no such situation anywhere. Now a days most of the IT companies are concentrating on the Other activities which can relieve the stress of employees of their companies in many different ways.
The sectors started organizing different set of events like tournaments, blood camps, undertaking village schools etc..With all these things there will be a great relief for employees. It is a good sign.Hope it continues in these sectors and emerging to new life of all the IT sectors.
