I am trying to install it on my XP 64 PCs and no go. One of them gets pretty far into the installation process and conks out. The other (newer, faster PC) gets this error message when trying to fire up the Installer:
File Access Denied
Both of these PCs are running AMD 64 bit MBs. The older one has 2 GB of RAM while the newer one has 8 GB of RAM.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. About ready to return the product ...
Either back up to XP 32 or move up to Vista 64.
Bob
The disk would load fine from the latter in my other system (but the install wouldn't finish) but with this drive connected to the newer PC I get the same error message as with the internal drive.
Sounds like what I will do is keep this version of Photoshop and just buy the upgrade for a version of Photoshop that works with Windows 7 (64 bit) when it comes out.
Honestly, all of the new processors/MBs coming out are heading us more and more towards 64 bit. If anything Adobe and the rest of the software world needs to keep up with the hardware. 64 bit software when properly programmed works faster than 32 bit software. It took HP 1.5 years to put out drivers for one of its printers I have for XP 64. Incredible to think that HP would take that long to catch up to the hardware.
I have used XP 64 since 2005 and really like it. Dont want to upgrade to Vista 64 or downgrade to XP 32 at this point so Windows 7 64 bit sounds like how I will go.

Q. What is the expected timeline for the availability of Windows 7?
A. We are currently in the planning stages for Windows 7 and expect it will take approximately 3 years to develop. The specific release date will be determined once the company meets its quality bar for release.
Q. Has Windows 7 been released to manufacturing?
A. We’re continuing to work with our partners on the development of Windows 7, and are not sharing any additional information at this time.
Q. Is the schedule for Windows 7 being moved up due to poor Windows Vista sales?
A. We’re not sharing additional information on Windows 7 at this time. However, we’re confident that many organizations are recognizing the value in Windows Vista. Of note, sales of Windows Vista licenses have now passed 100 million. In addition, Windows Vista is being adopted by businesses at a rate that is similar to past releases. In the business market there are early, mainstream and late adopters, with the majority of businesses falling into the category of mainstream. We’re seeing positive indicators that we’re already starting to move from the early adoption phase into the mainstream, and that more and more businesses are beginning their planning and deployment of Windows Vista.

Doesn't sound like Windows 7 will be out anytime soon. Thus I may decide to downgrade my older system once I have finished installing all of my programs to my new PC. Or perhaps get a dual-bootable system for my new one.
I'm so impressed with the beta that, barring something unforeseen, I
plan to do something I've never done before...upgrade immediately.

6 mos from now. 9 mos at the latest. :)
yer digging it huh bob?

I'm not sure if he really thought this was a useful response. XP x64 is the only option if you need lots of memory and you're in that huge group of users that finds Vista unusable.

I've installed PS fine in XP x64. Are you installing it as an administrator? (I'm not sure if a "power user" account is sufficient.) Also, try copying the entire contents of the disc to the hard drive and run the installer from there. Leave the disc in the drive, though.
If that fails, and you know what you're doing, you might be able to find out what's actually failing by watching the installer process with Process Monitor (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx).
Can't say I'm killing myself testing it but yes, it seems very stable.
The mere fact that it was fully installed in 18 minutes or so tells me
this thing has been dramatically streamlined.
The interface has been tweaked instead of overhauled and from the little
bit of CS4 testing I did, everything runs quite nicely.

Same OS too.
Used the download from the Adobe site to install it on new PC and that seemed to work but then got a Ser# error later.
Copied DVD to old PC and that installed fine. But its not on new PC!
Vendor offered to send me updated version CS4 EXT but apparently that is what shipped on the DVD.
Returned product. Have Essentials 2.0 and with new large drive for scratch disk my problems are all over. Bought a 1.5 TB drive and dedicated 1 TB to Scratch Disk. That solved the problem. Along with 8 GB of RAM I am set to go.
Thanks to all that provided help.
