I have uninstalled/reinstalled Photoshop and deleted the preference files to no avail. I have also used Adobe CS4 Clean Script along with Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to no avail.

I have installed Photoshop CS3 which seems to work except when I try to access the preference files when it crashes.
My system spec is
OS Vista Ultimate x64 SP1
CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q660 2.40GHz
Motherboard Asus P5QL-E
Memory 8 Gbt
Graphics Card Asus EAH 4850

Can anyone help.

Thanks

First, install the 11.0.1 update.

Then, if it still crashes, tell us WHEN it crashes.

I have installed 11.0.1 update along with the latest ATI 4850 drivers.I can now start Photoshop and I recieve the message that Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver and has temporarily disabled GPU enhancements.I close the box and try to open a photograph when Photoshop crashes with the above error message.I have also tried PSCS4GPU_OptionalPlugins to no avail. I have also checked the ATI Radeon HD 4800 properties and in the General tab it reads This device is working properly.
Windows did not start a related device driver. To learn more, click the Driver tab and then click Driver Details.I opened the Drivers Details and found that one of the entries was not ticked. C:\Windows\system32\drivers\ATKDispLowFilter.sys.Hope this helps.

OK, that message means what it says -- the driver has a problem and Photoshop is having to shut it down. Please report that to ATI.

If Photoshop crashes when creating or opening a document, then the crash cause could be in the printer driver (which gets partly initialized when we create or open a document).
