How to "disable" printer

Hi there.
PS CS3.
99% of what I do in PS is for the web, therefor no need for printing. But,
everytime I create a new image, it takes almost forever to start openening
the canvas according to the sizes I have selected it to be.
My printer is on a shared network and therefor before the new canvas is
created, first needs to talk to the printer.
Is there some way I can disbale this need for PS to first talk to my
printer?
