Thanks in advance,

Anyway that be as it may, the non-extended version will not overwrite the extended version you already have as I tried that first. In fact you end up with a right mess that way. The best approach is to uninstall the Extended version and when the dialogue pops up if you want to retain Preferences tick yes. That way all your Preferences settings that you made whilst using Extend will remain intact. Then go ahead and install the non-extended version.

If the demo isn't accepting the serial number something's wrong.
What is wrong is the crappy installer. Haven't heard much concrete about fixing it yet.
This is the latest blog:

The procedure I mentioned in my initial post was EXACTLY the info I received from Adobe support. When I downloaded the Extended version the notes seemed to imply (if not directly said) that by purchasing and entering a S/N for a lesser version e.g. the basic version then some features available in Extended would not be available. Like you, having twice entered the S/N and having twice received that red cross I telephoned support. They told me to uninstall Extended and do a clean install from the basic version on DVD which I had purchased via Amazon. I did exactly this and everything went without a hitch. If you are still having trouble it might be worth trying again to uninstall Extended but prior to installing from the DVD run a registry cleaner such as CCleaner (free) to rid your computer of any crap left over from Extended.
ElliR, thanks for your help.
Thanks to all ;))
