Hi there,

I am newbie with Photoshop, so could anyone tell me how to resize a picture meanwhile the aspect ratio remains the same? I always get distorted pictures.

Thank you.

All best wishes,

Palinkasocsi

using IMAGE SIZE tick the box that says constrain proportions
you should see a link and bracket at right side

using transform tool
click the link on the options bar that looks like a chain
or hold shift key and only drag from corner points not sides

Hey Kat Woman...

Just out of curiosity...Why is there always a couple extra lines of blank space above and below your replies?

Are you doing that on purpose?

If so, why?

If not, what do you think might be inserting those spaces?

Well Kat, we certainly appreciate you deleting the autoquotes. I think Phos is hoping you could delete the extra spaces as well. They just create a lot of extra scrolling for all the other users.

Thanks.

Thanks Guys.

One more thing: I know it's all a matter of experiment but when I change the height, the width automatically changes. How could I avoid that? Again, I want to keep the aspect ratio to avoid distorted pics.

Thank you very much.

As you have been told, check

b Constrain Proportions in the Image Size dialog.

palinkasosi,

Pretend that you have a 4x6 horizontal photo that you want to enlarge to an 8x10. You are actually making the photo TWICE as big. So, 4" times 2 equals 8". However, 6" times 2 equals 12". You do not want an 8x12, you want an 8x10. You therefore MUST crop out 2" from the sides.

Do it this way. Start with your 4x6. Horz.
Copy background layer.
Go to Image Size. Constrain Proportions checked.
Type in (Height) 8x (Width) 12. Enter.
Go to Canvas Size and replace the 12 with 10. Enter.
Now move your BACKGROUND COPY left and right until placed correctly.
Flatten layers.
