Hi,

I'm fairly new and need to know about cropping. I need a print size of 1665 x 1325. Do I do this this in the drop down "image size" or do I select the crop tool and enter the pixels in the fields? A little confused...

Thanks,
Barb

Image size will not crop, but will allow you to resize to a new dimensions. Canvas size will crop if you enter the specified new dimensions. But it is not the best for controlling what will be lopped off. I would use the crop tool with dimensions, as you mention. Then you can move it around until you get the best cropping, then activate it with Enter.

Barb,

I would advise using the rectangular marquee tool - style set for Fixed
Ratio. Since the width and height boxes won't accept numbers that big, set
width to 16.65 and height to 13.25. Then when you draw out the rectangular
marquee tool selection box it will stay in that proportion and you can open
it larger or smaller to crop the elements so they are included. You still
have to select Image - Crop to crop out what's not selected and then use the
image size to bring the image down to those exact dimensions. Assuming that
you are using an original that is large enough to allow you to make the crop
you want and have more pixels from the original than you need.

That'll work, but the crop tool does exactly that, as described by Don. And the crop is easier to adjust and move around, while retaining the target dimensions.
