CS4 - no thumbnail pictures on psd files

I have just installed Vista 64 bit and CS4 64 bit/32 bit and have lost the thumbnail pictures on psd files. I have them with CS4 32 bit {by also loading PS7), but they are not present for CS4 64 bit. I have only found one reference to this here or Googling which was to the effect that this is a known issue with CS4 64 bit. I don't want to use Bridge and just want to see the thumbnail images in W Explorer when choosing which file to open. The curious thing is that FastStone Viewer sees the thumbnails fine and it has nothing to do with Photoshop.

That turned up one reference - yours, made in this thread. My question was not, in any case, about the general lack of pictures on CS4 psd icons. You will see from a closer look at my post that my issue is about the lack of pictures on psd icons in CS4 64 bit - not 32 bit. As I already explained, I have pictures on my psd icons when running CS4 32 bit. My issue is how to get them in CS4 64 bit. On that issue, a search of this forum has produced nothing. Perhaps someone else may know more about this.

Granted the search function isn't so hot. Bottom line is that PSD icons
were eliminated with CS because of bugs in the operating system.

The reason you see them in 32 bit vista is not because it's 32 bit, it's
because you have Photoshop 7 installed.

Use Bridge.

There was a microsoft person who popped in another thread like this a while back and offered to help adobe. Something to do with the API call or something like that. Either way it is up to microsoft and adobe to iron it out. Yes it is a pain. I rather use windows explorer sometimes. Just using bridge for the most part now.

Thanks. Yes, I started the thread to which you refer. I am still baffled why I can see thumbnail pictures in 32 bit CS4 but not 64 bit CS4. There must be a reason for it. As an experiment, I uninstalled PS7 (from the Program Files(x86 eg 32 bit)) and find I can still see the psd thumbnails pictures. I see that the two relevant .dlls are still installed and were not removed when I uninstalled PS7.

So, I tried forcing PS7 to install in Program Files for 64 bit Vista. This resulted in being able to see a handful of thumbnail pictures when viewed through W Explorer - but which ones seemed to me haphazard. This was not usable so I have uninstalled PS 7 entirely now.

Any more ideas on this, please

It may be similar to viewing PDF thumbnails. They don't get generated in
a 64 bit shell. You have to view them in a 32 bit shell before you can
see them in the 64 bit environment.

Thanks. Yes, that makes sense. I don't suppose there's any work-around. Is it for example possible to make Bridge open when you click on File>Open in CS4 64 bit? I wouldn't mind it if Bridge could take over from W Explorer in Open and Save functions - I just want to see the images.

I confirm, this is work in Vista x64

1. Download zip at: <http://www.savefile.com/downloadmax/1829285> and unpack it.

2. Go to this site and read what to do (yes, just follow the 32bit solution!) There is a list (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.) that explanes how to do it.

3. Now, for vista 64 bit users:
Create a shortcut on your desktop and name it as “windows explorer (32 bit)”
a) Right click on desktop
b) click on >New> Shortcut
c) type in the path without quotes “C:\Windows\SysWOW64\explorer.exe /separate”

Open the shortcut, browse to your psd file and bingo you see the .psd tumbs!
PS. Be sure to first install the dll + reg files as mentioned in step 2!!!
