I am having the same problem that someone else on here had. I did not see an answer to the issue. Ok so I have Photoshop CS4, and for some crazy reason when I add a Layer mask to a layer, and then try to paint with black to "erase" a portion of the image, it DOES erase, BUT not fully! It is as if the transparency is set to like 95%, and I can still see a very light semi transparent ghosted portion of the image. It’s as if it is not fully hiding the pixels. I have checked and I definitely have the opacity of the brush set to 100% and I am using black and not a shade of grey. Any ideas??

CS3 still does this perfectly.

I am running XP pro sp3 32bit. 3gig ram. Intel Pentium 4

Is the "Flow" also set to 100%?

Thanks for answering Rob. Yes the flow and brush are set to 100% Everything is set as it supposed to be to get 100% erase. There is still a ghost of the mask left.

Very weird. I would think a lot of people would be having the same issue. The same steps in CS3 on this machine work perfect. No ghosting.

This is probably a silly question, but have you checked the settings in the new mask adjustment panel? How about the brush hardness, is that at 100%?
