I need to produce a poster for our trade show. The content of the poster needs to be screen shots of our application. Is there any known software or strategies for handling this?

Thanks,

Al

Full-monitor screenshots?

Shots of smaller application windows, dialogues or menus?

Please provide some physical dimensions (i.e.: inches W × inches H) you wish for these items to appear. For example: If a dialogue box captures at 300pxW × 400pxH, how big in INCHES (or cm) do you want it to print at?

Understand that for large/grand format printing often you can get away with printing at 72dpi, or even 36 dpi, because they're usually viewed from a distance of 4 feet or more.

Screenshots are tough to enlarge to any great magnification because the pixel data just doesn't exist.

If you want that 300pxW × 400pxH dialogue box to appear crystal clear when printed at 48 inches W × 64 inches H, it just isn't going to happen.

If you have Vista, use the 'Snipping Tool', it is a Windows Accessory.

I like the freeform option for the snipping tool.

The Mac OS has had most of the rest of it covered for quite awhile; freeform would be a nice addition.

Even the Snipping tool (which is pretty good) is missing the capture of fly-out menus (which tend to fly back in).

I use SnagIt from <http://www.techsmith.com/> for the tricky bits.

And OS X native screengrabs omit cursors. I have a GIF file with them all assembled, ready for copy/pasting when need be.

It comes in handy.

But it DOES grab flyouts:

The poster I have to make is 38" 26". I know when I capture a screen it is going to be far smaller than that. I also know that when i Resize the graphic to fit the poster it will degrade badly. I was just hoping that there was some technology marvel or some little known technique that would allow me to accomplish this. I will now have to painstakingly rebuild these pages as vector graphics.

Thanks,

Al

Well what did you use to create the UI? perhaps that program can generate higher resolution prints.

I will use CorelDRAW to recreate the UI. I will export the final image as a .eps file and place it in an InDesign document. I'll resize it and apply whatever parameters the print shop tells me. I always consult with them before delivering my "camera-ready" art. BTW does anyone know if we stll call it "camera-ready"?

Thanks for looking in on my efforts.
